I think most people by now know who Jimmy Fallon is. He’s the host of one of the nightly talk shows on NBC and is hands-down a funny guy. Some of the things his show is mainly known for are the segments that he does with celebrity guests that are fun to watch and look like they're fun to play.
As a youth major who hopes to be a youth pastor in the future, I’m constantly looking for fun things to do with that future youth group. Yes, youth groups like to have fun, and here are 10 segments from the Tonight Show that I would totally use with a youth group.
1. Hashtags
On the show each week there is a weekly hashtag given out that people respond to with a story. Hashtags like #MySiblingIsWeird, #MomQuotes, and #IfIWasInCharge have been used. The responses are usually pretty hilarious and it would be great to make some up and see the responses from the teens.
2. Charades
Yes, this game isn’t really new but it’s always fun to see someone trying to explain something without speaking and just using motions to figure it out.
3. Pictionary
This game was a classic growing up and it’s always fun to guess what someone’s drawing, especially if they can’t draw (like me.)
4. Catch Phrase
Catch Phrase also isn’t a new game, but sometimes it’s the old games that can totally make the night.
5. Word Sneak
This game involves giving the people involved a list of words that they have to sneak into the conversation. It’s great because you’re never sure what word its going to be and half the time the sentences are random and don’t make any sense.
6. Dubsmash
This one is all about that app that takes different quotes and songs and has the person lip syncing to it then plays it back. Having them using headphones while recording makes it even better before the playback.
7. Kid Theater
This one involves having kids in elementary school write a script giving them only a title that they have to use and work around. Most kids end up making a really good script that’s totally creative and totally funny when read aloud. I would love to use this one because little kids are creative and you’re never really going to know what they’ll write down in their script.
8. Egg Russian Roulette
What would youth group be without a mess? Egg Russian Roulette takes a dozen eggs (4 raw, 8 hardboiled) and each person takes turns smashing them on their head. The first to get two raw eggs loses.
9. Classroom Instruments
This takes instruments mainly found in kid classrooms such as xylophones, toy pianos, and kazoos and use them to cover songs.
