Let's get real for a second. We've all had those moments when we felt sad and alone. The question is, how do you deal with those moments? For me, I try to distract my brain by watching funny videos, reading, playing video games, etc. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I can't just push it out of my mind. Sometimes you just need to face the fact that you are not OK. In these moments, I do something that I would like to share with you the reader. Listen to sad music. Really, truly listen. Don't come into it thinking about the superficial stuff. Who cares who the artist is? Who cares about the music video? Just,

Turn off the lights.

Lay down.

Close your eyes.

Listen to the songs below.

Don't just listen to the melody.

Listen to the lyrics.

Really listen to the lyrics.

One of my most favorite things that someone has told me is,

"Artists write sad songs to show you that you are not alone. They have felt the same pain and show you through this form of art."

1. "Who You Are" by Jessie J.

Favorite lyric: "It's OK not to be OK."

2. "Even My Dad Does Sometimes"by Ed Sheeran.

Favorite lyric: "So don't wipe your eyes, tears remind you you're alive."

3. "A Little Too Much" by Shawn Mendes.

Favorite lyric: "You don't have to be afraid, because we're all the same."

4. "Warrior" by Demi Lovato.

Favorite lyric: "I'm a survivor, in more ways than you know."

5. "Fix You" by Coldplay.

Favorite lyric: "I promise you I will learn from my mistakes."

6. "Daydream" by Tori Kelly.

Favorite lyric: "Don’t forget to breathe, who you want to be is only up to you."

7. "Be As You Are" by Mike Posner.

Favorite lyric: “There are moments when you fall to the ground, but you are stronger than you feel you are now."

8. "Be Still" by The Fray

Favorite lyric: "Be still and know that I'm with you."

9. "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" performed by Andrea Faustini.

Favorite lyric: "And I crashed down and I tumbled but I did not crumble."

Disclaimer: The original by Whitney Houston is just as equally amazing. I just watched Andrea sing this on "The X Factor" and the emotion in him singing it kills me. If you prefer Whitney the queen herself, I completely understand. I'll leave her version on here too.

10. "The Scientist" by Coldplay.

Favorite lyric: "Nobody said it was easy, No one ever said it would be this hard."

I really hope that you guys enjoyed this random list of songs. I hope you listened to the lyrics and let them touch your heart. I hope that it shows you that you truly are not alone and we know how you feel sometimes. Please feel free to share and post more songs in the comments down below. I know I would appreciate it and hopefully others will too.

Just in case you didn't want to individually click the links, here's a playlist on Spotify that you can just continuously listen to. Remember, close your eyes and really listen to the lyrics. Let the music take you over.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
