10 Resolutions we always break

but not this year...

10 Resolutions we always break

Everyone makes goals for themselves, especially for the new year. We pretty much make the same goals every year and we pretty much break all of those goals within the first month of the new year! So here's some goals I'll bet you'll break, if you don't please let me know how!!

1. I will eat better!

You do really well for about a week then chik-fil-a starts calling your name or those candy bars at the gas station literally jump off the shelves into your hands! But hey every one deserves a cheat day... every day of the week...

2. I will go to the gym every day

Let's get a gym buddy and take some classes at the Y, but then you get tired and going to the gym starts to actually become more of a hassle rather than a confidence boost.

3. Save money

So you either got some cash in your stocking or you racked up on gift cards, either way you're determined to put in the savings account and try to build up for something big. But you start returning gifts or exchanging sizes and Nordstrom Rack just starts calling your name. Then poof 2 hours and $500 later you're broke.

4. Lose that holiday weight

This one ties into the eating healthy and going to the gym thing. Yeah we can all diet and workout but you never feel like you're accomplishing anything if you don't see it on the scale, even though you totally are!

5. Wake up early

Usually you want to make the goal of waking up early so you can have your breakfast smoothie and go for a run to start your day off! Too bad waking up early actually sucks. No like really it's awful and it's realistically one of my hardest goals to accomplish each year!

6. Watch less TV

I'm not even going to try to talk people out of this one. I am a TV enthusiast and support rotting your brain out by watching mindless TV!

7. Plan more

This is an act that can probably last for about 3 weeks if you can really keep up with it. If you're anything like me it will last a day and then you'll forget you even own a planner.

8. Spend more time with family

So maybe you realized over the holidays that you literally never see these people you call aunt or uncle or even mom and dad. But this year you'll try harder to spend time with them. I really do hope that everyone who has this goal achieves it! However, sometimes you get busy and realize it's been 6 months since you've seen them. Keep trying though!

9. Find a better job

Whether you like your job now or don't most people are set out on January 1st to find a job that pays better or has more vacation days, but then December 31st comes around and you're still in the same job you've been in. Get out there and do it this year!

10. Chase your dreams

This is something I feel like a lot of people set out to do at the first of year and then 6 months down the road they never speak of it again...

So I know this is completely depressing, or it may seem like I'm bumming you out about all the things you didn't do last year, but do it this year and don't let anyone or anything stand in your way. Don't take any easy roads out and don't give up on what you want to do with your life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
