With Father's Day here, a lot of us like to take some time and appreciate our dads and all they do for us. However, I believe you should be just as thankful for your dad every day. Why have one day only where everyone posts about their dads or gives them those cheesy coupon books when we should be doing this every day? I know life can get busy and we tend to take things for granted, our dads included. Below is a list of reasons why we should remember to thank our dads every day for what they do.
1. As a girl, he is the first man to ever love you.
My dad has told me a countless amount of times that he loves me so much, and no man will ever love me more than he loves me. I truly believe him when he says this. At all of the father-daughter dances, weddings, really any event that involves some sort of music, my dad is the first to pull me to the dance floor, even if no one else is dancing. Also, for the past 20 years of my life, he has always been my Valentine. Let's face it––our dads are the ultimate boyfriends.
2. As a guy, he teaches you a lot.
I've grown up watching the relationship between my dad and two older brothers flourish. I remember when my dad and brother would "shave" in the bathroom and I would just sit there and watch them, almost a little jealous that this was something I could not share with my dad. I've come to know that some of my best most respectful guy friends also have amazing dads. Dads make such an impression on their kids, and I have seen that in my two brothers and how great they are.
3. No matter what the task, dads can fix anything. Or, at least they claim they can.
I cannot even begin to count the amount of times I've walked outside to see my dad up on a ladder doing something to our gutter or the roof or a tree or a window or literally anywhere he can reach on a ladder. Although sometimes it may not turn out as we had planned, dads will never admit defeat. They are the men of the house, therefore they are supposed to be able to fix anything, and they will try, and try, and try, and try again.
4. He remains calm (or, at least pretends to) when your bank account is low ... again.
He knows you're trying your best. And although he might not completely understand why you just had to have that 50th pair of shoes you had to shove into the limited space left in your closet, he's happy to see you're happy. He knows (or hopes) that one day you will be able to stand on your own. And maybe one day he'll even be able to call you asking for money!
6. He appreciates every gift.
Yes, every gift; even the corny Father's Day gifts he got for about 10 years straight. Without fail, every little dinky gift I had gotten my dad would always end up in his work office. It's probably a little sigh of relief when you finally grow out of that age of silly gifts, but then again, as a broke college student those gifts don't sound like a bad idea anymore!
7. He's not afraid to act like a little kid with you.
No matter if it was cards, board games, legos, dominos, or even (when Dad was lucky) a tea party with all your favorite stuffed animals, he was down for it. I know now he always looks forward to going to the beach with my little cousins because it gives him a chance to act even more immature than he is.
8. He'll be your best friend forever.
Dads are still down to do anything with us. You can count on it. I can't remember the last time my dad has turned me down after I asked if he would do something with me. And, without fail, we always have a great time.
9. Even when he hands his daughter over to someone else, we know he's still always there.
I always wonder what's going through a father's mind when he is walking his little girl down the aisle. I really think that, although that whole part of the wedding is called "giving her away," we all know a dad will never let his little girl go. I have no doubt in the world that I can always come back to my dad and he will welcome me no matter what.
10. He loves you endlessly.
You cannot erase a father's love. No matter what you think, he is a part of you, one way or another, forever. My dad still hugs, kisses, and tells my brothers and I how much he loves us. And I 100% know he will do this forever. Remember, June 19 of this year might be Father's Day, but for these reasons and so many more you should remember to be thankful for your dads every single day.
Happy Father's Day to all the amazing dads out there (especially mine)!
