As told by a Mountaineer.

1. The breathtaking campus

West Virginia University has one of the most beautiful campuses. The historical buildings, the mountains, the river, and the sunsets are unbelievable.

2. The people are (mostly) friendly

Most people from West Virginia are the kindest people you will ever meet in your life. There are a few out-of-state students that need to learn how to be nice, but for the most part, it's the friendliest campus ever. It's super easy to make friends.

3. Not too big, not too small

With a widely spread out campus and about 30,000 students, WVU feels like it could swallow you whole sometimes. I have had classes in lecture halls with 300 people in them, but I've also had classes with only 20 people. It's a big school, but with a small school feel.

4. Football games

WVU football games are something you don't want to miss. It's one of the most fun and exciting experiences you'll ever have. The tailgates before the game are crazy, and after a big win, there's nothing like singing "Country Roads" with your fellow Mountaineers.

5. Lots of diversity

There's lots of diversity at WVU and there's even a foreign-exchange program. The 10th floor of my dorm is all foreign-exchange students. It's interesting to hear all the different languages when you're walking around campus.

6. The BEST school spirit

You couldn't name a school with more pride or spirit. You can feel it radiating from the fans. Nothing is better than a "Let's go... Mountaineers!" chant.

7. It feels like home even if you aren't from West Virginia

Any out-of-state student at WVU will tell you that they feel like they belong here. Everyone here is so welcoming and makes you feel like you're at home. I'm actually from West Virginia, but I still live almost three hours south of the campus. The welcoming people made Morgantown feel like home to me and still continue to.

8. The wide variety of majors

WVU offers over 130 majors. Some of them are very interesting, too. My personal favorite is the puppetry major because it's pretty unique.

9. The social atmosphere

I'm sure that if you're thinking of going here, you know it's a party school. If that's your thing, you're in the right place. The social atmosphere and nightlife are booming here every day of the week. I don't personally partake in partying on a Monday — but hey, if that's what you want to do, have at it!

10. Who doesn't love a president that wears bow ties?

Need I say more? Look how cute our President is. Everyone loves taking selfies with President E. Gordon Gee!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
