Now, you may all be wondering, what the heck am I talking about? How can someone be a unicorn? Well, up until a few months ago, I would have asked the same thing. That was until I earned the nickname myself. I know that in the Urban Dictionary that the nickname "unicorn" is usually something sexual. I am definitely not that. However, since I am a definite unicorn, I know that there are others out there just like me. So, in the interest of finding others who are “pure and rare," here are 10 reasons that you might be a unicorn.

1. You have been sheltered.

Now, you are definitely not naive to the world around you. You are well aware that there is evil in society. You may have even been harmed by it, which should never happen to anyone, but this world is cruel so being affected by evil is inevitable. What I mean is that your parents have tried to shelter you from as much evil as they could. Because of this, you may not be with the times on pornography, dirty jokes and how to attend a proper college party. You may not have seen many R-rated movies. My point is that you have been protected from a lot of things probably to the point that some frustration at your parent’s strictness is a common feeling. If this is the case, you might be a unicorn.

2. You have stubbornly strong convictions.

Whether you see the world in black and white or with just a little bit of grey mixed in, you stick to your guns. You have been taught to have strict morals which you do your best to live by. This comes from living in a sheltered household. Whether or not you are religious is not so much of an issue, but that these morals have shaped your beliefs, your political views, your relationships and your day-to-day decision-making so when you form an opinion about something, it is based on your personal convictions. These carefully formed convictions have turned you opinionated. This may have caused you some backlash and made you feel like a social pariah so you are careful about whom you trust. So, if you have big convictions and a few close friends whom you trust more than anyone, you might be a unicorn.

3. You are an idealist.

The world cannot be seen through rose-colored glasses, but there is hope for humanity. You just have to search for it. This is your view on people and life in general. Your life experiences have given you an open-minded view of the world around you. You try your best to spread love and give people the benefit of the doubt even when they don’t deserve it. Nothing in this world is ever easy, but you try to see the world realistically instead of half-full or half-empty. Despite this, you have big dreams and a bleeding heart. If you laugh a lot, feel compassion for others and sad dog commercials and are a secret hopeless romantic then you might be unicorn.

4. Along with your convictions, you have faith.

You may not be a Christian, even though that is the case for me, but you have a bigger picture in mind. You have faith in yourself, others or the world around you. You understand that you must be a part of something bigger than yourself or you would be not on this earth. This is the case for many Christians, but, also, for people who just believe that there is still good in this world. Because of your convictions and your dreamy idealism, your faith in whatever is just a part of who you are. Your belief in that big-something just might make you a unicorn.

5. You are straight-laced.

Whether it was because of your strict household growing up or that you just don’t like how people are when under the influence, you avoid alcohol and drugs on a regular basis. Sure, you are curious about them and may have even tried something once or twice just to see how it was, but you are definitely not the life of the party when beer kegs and joints are being passed around. In fact, most of the time, you aren’t even invited to those parties and that is okay with you. So, if you keep your nose clean and try to stay out of trouble, uh oh, you might be a unicorn.

Speaking of being just a little straight-laced, next we are back to the sex issue. You see, if you are a unicorn…

6. You are a virgin.

This is where being “pure and rare” comes into play. For me, I’m a unicorn because I’m waiting for marriage. This may or may not be the case, but you certainly haven’t gotten any. Because of your strong convictions, morals and faith, you have opinions about your body too. You either do not want to share it with anyone or you are waiting for the right person. This is odd in college and in today’s world in general. Though, you are probably both ridiculed and admired for respecting your own body and that is commendable. So, if you respect your body enough to save it for your right person then you are definitely at least part-unicorn. There is no way to get around this one.

7. You are people-oriented.

No matter how many people screw you over, they are very interesting and you cannot help caring about them. It is part of your idealist nature to see people how you see the world with just a little bit of hope. You may be introverted or have a huge personality that marks you as an extrovert. The point is that people fascinate you and you love being around them. You are okay with helping out others and do your best to be there for those closest to you, which also suggests that you have a big heart. So, if those four atriums of yours are massive and you are known as getting along well with others or just loving people in general, you just might be a unicorn.

8. In addition to being a fan of the people, you are pretty easygoing.

You tend take life as it comes. You are able to walk up to anyone and start a reasonable conversation with them, but whether or not you do is purely one’s choice. You do not have a fiery temper despite your strong convictions, so it takes a lot to get you going. When you do though, it can get ugly. For the most part, you would rather get along and take life one day at a time. So, if you would rather just get along than start a fight, you just might be a unicorn.

9. You are an intellectual.

Well, because you form your own opinions, you have to get them from somewhere, right? Whether you are a bookworm or you just form your own ideas about life, you are a deep thinker. It is not just academic though. You think about everything and everyone on a regular basis. Sometimes it gets you into trouble, but you insist that you can always find a way out of it. You can be practical, yet still want to make life easier on yourself. This goes along with your relaxed nature because you would most likely rather fight with words than fists. So, if you have a love for learning and you are accused of thinking too much, you just might be a unicorn.

The final reason that you just might be a unicorn is…

10. You are just a little bit crazy.

This is my favorite one. Whether you are just a little bit eccentric or you have strange interests, you do not fit in most of the time. You don’t mind though. With your love, your people and easygoing personality, your friends and family embrace your oddities rather than ridicule them. They see your talents and quirks as part of the beautiful, confusing masterpiece of who you are. The best part about your being unicorn is that you just love being yourself no matter what others say about you. Despite insecurities or ideas that come from deep thinking and the pain that life has thrown at you, your faith and idealism along with support from friends and family have helped you to overcome obstacles and to accept yourself as who you are. So, if you are out of the box and accept that you have weaknesses, you just might be a unicorn.

Now, this is not an exact science. Part of being a unicorn is that there are not many of us out there. I firmly believe that there are others; we are just in hiding. So, if you think you are a unicorn, embrace it and let people see the beautiful you. All of us are unique and the traits listed here are not exactly foolproof. We change every day, and you might not always fit each of these. I most definitely will not. However, you will be better for it and understand yourself more if you just admit to being a certain type of awesome. Be unique! Be a unicorn! And change the world for the better!

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
