Going out in the real world and getting a job can be a bit draining, especially if you work in retail or the restaurant industry. The hours are long, the customers come in an array of moods, your co-workers can be your best friends or your worst enemies, and sometimes your manager is just downright crazy. When you're going into your shift, it's knowing that there is at least one face you can tolerate and feel a sense of security around because you know that they have your back--even if everyone else doesn’t. As if you even needed one, here’s a list of 10 reasons why you should definitely work with your best friend:
1. You can have conversations exclusively through facial expressions.
“Did you SEE what she just did?”
“Dude, I’m so annoyed right now”
“Fake laugh with me to get this customer to shut up”
“Don’t fake laugh; get me away from this creep!”
“Is it time for me to go home yet?”
2. They have your back like no one else does.
This reason is really self-explanatory, but just think about when that Derek kid is grinding your gears for the fifth time today. Even though you’re doing your best, who is really going to go into defense mode to clear up the situation? That’s right, your BFF.
3. They make the time go by faster.
Obviously, work isn’t fun and games, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your shift and be productive at the same time! If you’re in a funk and not feeling work, you can count on your best friend to boost your mood and make that eight-hour shift fly by.
4. You can guilt them into covering your shift.
OK, so maybe “guilt” isn’t the right word, but if all else fails and you really can’t make it into work, your BFF will likely have your back. The best part is that neither of you will resent the other because you know that life happens and everybody needs a cover every now and then.
5. You get to spend even more time together.
My best friend and I literally spend four to five days out of the week together, especially if we work on the same days. Sometimes we go nine days in a row seeing each other and somehow don't get sick of each other. Some may say we’re obsessed, I say we’re a BFF match made in heaven.
6. Post-shift dinner dates.
There’s really nothing quite like being a sweaty disaster and walking into a restaurant with tired feet, dirty uniforms and unruly hair with your best friend. The day is finallyover and you’re about to feast with someone who won’t judge you on how you look or how fast you inhale your dinner. It's just another "you had to be there" stories.
7. Carpooling.
This is actually something my best friend and I haven’t done yet, but I imagine it’d be pretty cool to try out one day. I don’t think I have to explain how significantly less stressed you’d be walking into and out of work with your best friend by your side; hopefully to go home and eat ice cream out of the container and watch crappy rom-com's.
8. Gossiping about your work crushes.
Trying to explain why you think your 30-something-year-old coworker is hot to anyone who doesn’t work with you just never quite comes out the way you intend. While most people probably wouldn’t get it, your best friend can see why he’s so crush-worthy. Your BFF totally caught that flirty moment in the kitchen between you two and helps out so that you don’t have to stress about whether that was blatant flirtation or if you’re cracking up from standing for 8 hours.
9. You have a work husband/wife/BFF all rolled into one person.
Some people are lucky enough to have a work husband/wife, but you know who’s even luckier? The person who is your BFF on and off the clock.
10. You can be boss ass b*tches together.
There's nothing quite like walking into work with your best friend knowing the whole place would go up in flames without you both on the clock. That's a serious confidence booster right there.
