For all college students, winter vacation is a much-needed and well-deserved break from the rigors of college life. However, those who have the privilege of calling Maine their home get the opportunity to take part in some incredible activities and winter fun! Indoors or outdoors, there is always something to do, here are just a few:

1. Ice skating

No matter your skill level, ice skating is always an enjoyable winter activity and makes a great activity with your friends. One can go to one of Maine's many frozen lakes or ponds or visit one of the state's ice rinks. Be sure to check out The Rink at Thompson's Point—it's an amazingly beautiful spot to lace up the skates.


2. Skiing and snowboarding

With winters full of snow, downhill and cross country skiing as well as snowboarding are certainly popular activities. Check out one of Maine's many incredible ski mountains including, Sugarloaf, Sunday River, and Mt. Abrams just to name a few.


3. Sledding

Sledding is an awesome activity and can be done essentially anywhere you have a hill. No matter your age, sledding is sure to be filled with fun and excitement!

4. Snowshoeing

Similar to hiking, snowshoeing involves the use of large footwear which allows one to walk easily over the top of snow. Snowshoeing makes traveling into the thick of Maine's beauty easy and fun! Not to mention the amazing workout!

5. Check out a museum

Maine has some incredible museums to offer and one could easily make an entire day of checking out just one! Museums include the Portland Museum of Art, Owls Head Transportation museum, and the Children's Museum of Maine.

6. Enjoy a sporting event

Maine has many incredible indoor sporting events sure to warm you up and keep you interested. One could check out Portland's own Pirates Hockey team or the Red Claws basketball team. Both are easily accessible, inexpensive, and fun for the whole family!

7. Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling is a fun and fast winter sport enjoyed by many. Snowmobiling allows one to take in Maine's beauty in a very fast and exhilarating manner and is sure to never disappoint.

8. Ice Fishing

If you enjoy fishing in the warmer months, you are sure to enjoy ice fishing in the winter months. Ice fishing is a relaxing activity and offers a new angle on a timeless sport.

9. Get Air!

If you are looking for an excellent indoor activity, look no further than Get Air in Portland, Maine. Get Air is Maine's indoor trampoline park and offers a solution to those days you really don't want to brave the cold. Get Air offers endless fun and is an amazing way to work up a serious sweat!

10. Take a personal day

Not much explanation needed here! Take a day to yourself and enjoy the warmth of your home and take in a good book or movie. There is no better place to focus on your own wellbeing than Maine, particularly on those beautiful, snowy days.
