10 Reasons Why You Should Thank Your All Girls Catholic High School

Some will say that high school is the best four years of your life filled with lasting friendships and memories. This can happen at any type of high school, but I believe you create the best bonds and memories when attending an all girls Catholic high school. Everyone who went to one has experiences that no other girl from a Catholic co-ed or public school can relate to. I am extremely thankful in multiple ways for going to an all girls Catholic high school and here's why you should be too.

1. Looks aren't everything

When going to an all girls school, no one cares if your hair isn't perfect or if you have flawless skin. This is a place where it's acceptable to go to school with a messy bun and no makeup. It's even expected. On top of that, having a uniform is great because you don't need to compete with everyone on who has the best clothes. It makes everyone equal, plus it takes away the struggle of wondering what to wear everyday. After experiencing this for four years, it teaches you that looks aren't always the most important thing. The best look you can have is confidence.

2. Boys aren't everything

One of the best parts about going to an all girls school is that you aren't constantly surrounded by boys. Not only does it help you focus academically, but it also gives you a time to just be yourself and not feel like you're being judged by doing goofy things or eating a ton of food. It also gives us that girl time every girl needs. It teaches us that we don't need to be with boys all the time.

3. Self-Esteem

Going along with reasons one and two, your confidence will be higher than ever. When you stop caring too much about your physical appearance or what a boy thinks about you, you can truly be yourself. It may not be all girls again after high school, but you've now gained this new self-esteem that can get you through anything.

4. Faith

Not only is doing service work good for the community, but it also brings so many benefits to yourself. It gives you experience, a sense of reality and its a way to bond with a certain type of people you may not have before.

7. Academics

Like said before, going to an all girls school really helps you concentrate on your school work rather than gawk at the boys in your class. But going to a Catholic school in general means they have very high expectations, but they also have some of the best teachers in the business. Catholic schools take large pride in their stellar academics, and you will too. Nothing can better prepare you for college than going to a school that takes academics so seriously.

8. Traditions and school spirit

Like any high school, most of the students are raving in school pride. But at an all girls Catholic high school, everyone goes all out when showing their pride and they are very serious about their traditions. Your bright spirit and these traditions will live on with you after high school.

9. Proud to be a girl

When you go to school with boys, sometimes the girls can feel left out when it comes to some sports or clubs. Some people will say that a girl can't play football or a girl can't be apart of the science club. But that isn't even an issue here. It teaches you that girls can do anything that a boy can do.

10. Sisterhood

Going to an all girls high school is kind of like being in a sorority. The girls you meet in high school aren't just for four years, they're for life. You meet some of your best friends in high school and thanks to going to an all girls school, you have memories that will make your friendship lasts a life time.

No matter what high school you go to, you're going to have some of the best times of your life. But I believe that mine wouldn't have been as great if I hadn't gone to an all girls Catholic high school. I've met some of my best friends during high school, have improved academically and have been taught multiple life lessons that every girl needs to know. So thank you Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, KY for an incredible four years. And to everyone else who also went to an all girls Catholic high school, always keep in mind these things to be thankful for.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
