Meditation is more than just sitting on the floor with your legs crossed, listening to ocean breezes and quiet bird chirps. It is a deeply relaxing state, and an awesome habit to get in to.

Meditating everyday not only works wonders on your mind, but it also does amazing things to your physical body, too. Practicing it overall calms, relaxes, and puts our bodies to rest for a couple of minutes ... which can really pay off and make a noticeable difference. That't not all that it does though...here are some more reasons why you should try meditating everyday :

1. Meditating boosts your health and immune system.

No one likes to be sick. Meditating everyday, or at least a couple of times a week, increases immune function and makes sure that your body is in good shape.

2. It makes you happier.

Meditating puts your body at ease, and lets you wash away all of those negative thoughts that spiral around in your head. It allows you to relieve stress, worry, and anxiety...which overall makes you a happier person.

3. It cures insomnia.

Having trouble going to sleep at night? Meditate! Since meditation has such a huge calming effect on our minds and bodies, it will serve as a sleep aid to you. Practicing meditation right before you plan to hit the hay will make it easier to fall asleep, and stay asleep.

4. It improves and increases your productivity.

Meditation increases our focus, attention span, and ability to multi-task. It will make working on things easier...even working on several things at once!

5. You will gain more control over your emotions.

Meditating not only makes you more aware of your emotions, but it also helps you control them. It will teach you how to handle, approach, and deal with your emotions in a better way than you did before.

6. You can do it everywhere.

Yes, really...you can meditate everywhere and anywhere that you want to. If you're comfortable in that place...meditate!

7. You will make better decisions.

That's right, meditating will make it easier for you to choose the right thing to do. It will teach you how to approach decisions in a more calm and focused manner...which is something that a lot of us could use some help with.

8. You'll like doing it.

Believe it or not, once you get into meditating you'll start to really like it. You'll see how much power it has over our minds, and how much it works. You'll never know until you try though!

9. It will decrease any unnecessary stress that you have in your life.

Meditating makes it easier to destress. It makes us forget about our stressors, worries, and anxiety/fears. It will make you feel more at ease with your life and yourself when you're finished, and that is a feeling that we all need!

10. It's good for you.

Although I only named a few, meditating has so many health benefits that are good for your body and mind. It overall is an extremely healthy practice, and something that you should get into today.

See? Meditating isn't just for old monks to take part in.

There are so many scientific benefits to practicing mediation...do some research and see for yourself, or simply just try it out!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
