10 Reasons Why You Should Attend Marshall University
Rachel Sullivan

With many high school graduations right around the corner, I felt the need to give graduating seniors a list of reasons why they should attend Marshall University. Marshall was always my first choice in furthering my education. I never had a doubt in my mind where I wanted to go and I can say with complete confidence that I made the best decision. If you are a high school student struggling with where you would like to continue your education, I have compiled a list of ten reasons why you should choose Marshall University.

1. The big university vibe remains on a convenient campus.

Marshall has such a convenient campus set up. It is easy to get from one end of campus to the next in a matter of ten minutes or less. This is such a blessing for busy days. With it being a fairly small campus, students still get the feeling of attending a large university. It is easy to walk down the sidewalk and see new people every single day.

2. The professors really care.

Marshall has hands down the best professors in higher education. With the class sizes remaining generally small, professors have the opportunity to invest more time and attention into making sure each individual knows the information. Professors provide support when needed.

3. We ARE...rich in history.

Marshall has a rich history that has shaped the university into the home that it is. The history has helped Marshall evolve into a university that has respect for each other because we all know where we came from. While it was a tragic event, the 1970 crash that claimed 75 lives has strengthened the community even to this day.

4. Family matters to us.

The whole university is like one big family. The student body refers to ourselves as sons and daughters of Marshall. In times of joy or distress, we stand together, hand in hand, and move forward as one. The family aspect of Marshall is not one to go unnoticed.

5. You can make a friend just about anywhere.

While friends can be found anywhere, I will say that Marshall has granted me some of the most amazing friends I could ask for. Whether it's through greek life, sports, or other campus organizations, the friendships made will last a lifetime.

6. There is an organization for everyone.

Marshall University has a crazy amount of organizations to be a part of that range from academic and social fraternities and sororities to club sports and interest organizations. To see a complete list of organizations, visit Herdlink.

7. You'll never run out of resources.

There are endless resources to ensure academic success at Marshall. Marshall offers free tutoring and a writing center that assists students in whatever they may need. The Textbook Loan Program in Drinko Library allows students to borrow books for class. Marshall also offers free counseling services to students. If help is ever needed with classes or college in general, there is always somewhere to go.

8. Diversity matters here.

Diversity is a main focus of Marshall University. Marshall is open for everyone, and celebrates them all. Marshall holds educational panels to give everyone the opportunity to learn about cultures they may have otherwise not known of. Marshall is a place where no matter the color of your skin, sexual orientation, or religion, students can thrive as an individual as well as part of the Herd.

9. The campus is beautiful.

Our campus is absolutely beautiful. No matter the weather, is always a beautiful sight.

10. Opportunity awaits.

Marshall University provides everyone with different opprotunities. Whether it is professonal or personal, this university will help each student grow. My freshman year, the slogan used on all of the promosional items was "Best Decision Ever". It was and still is my best decision ever. I believe it would be for anyone.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care
