10 Reasons Why We Love Sleep

Sleep has always been there for us, from the low points and high points in our lives and to everything in-between! No matter what goes on in our everyday activities, sleep will never run away from us and will always be greeting us with a pillow and a promising pile of blankets. There's just something about it that everyone always loves! Here's just 10 reasons why we love sleep oh, so much.

1. It helps us recuperate from the day's labor.

Sleep is a wonderful thing when it comes to rebuilding our bodies in order to feel better physically. All of that non-movement and unconsciousness is seriously linked to some pretty amazing physical results. There's more to sleep than meets the eye! If you had a long strenuous work day, an intense strength training circuit, or a cold, sleep is going to be your best remedy for recovery.

2. The dreams we have are always unpredictable.

Dreams are such a huge part of sleep. Often times when we wake up, we forget what we dreamt about the minute before. In order to encourage dream memory, keeping a log of what you dreamt of to the most you can remember will aid in developing further memory retention of the things you picture in your head at night! The dreams we have are never planned and are certainly unpredictable, which makes for an exciting night of sleep every time. Who's ready to run away from bees wearing clown shoes?

3. It' a good way to avoid your problems.

Problems in your life? Fear not, because sleep will take all of those problems away from you! Who needs to stress and attempt to study for a test that you have the next day? Not you! Sleep is your best friend here, I promise (I don't guarantee that you won't dream about it though).

4. It's a good way to bust your boredom.

When all else fails to keep your attention throughout the day, sleep is the next best option. I know whenever I'm bored I collapse into some of the best naps ever! So are you really ever going to be bored? Not really, because sleep is always an activity that benefits you afterwards. Unless, of course, you have somewhere to go and forget to set an alarm. Oops!.

5. Our pets snuggle with us.

There's nothing better than snuggling with your pets in bed. Annoying as they may be, because research has shown that sleeping with our beloved little critters yields in not-so-wonderful sleep quality, we love them and their space heater-like qualities anyways. Besides, humans can't possibly be that soft and furry?

6. You can make time pass in just the blink of an eye (literally).

Are you so excited for something that's happening tomorrow that you just can't bear waiting any longer? Sleep the time away! It's the quickest way to make the time pass because you literally have no concept of time when you're unconscious. Just close your eyes, and when you wake up, it'll surely take you a few hours into the future.

7. It allows us to hit a reset button if our day was bad.

We all have bad days. Sometimes, they're just so bad that we don't want to deal with the day any longer in the event that even more bad things will happen. We can forego even more bad things happening by just sleeping it away. Instant reset button! Bad days usually disappear as soon as you hit the hay, and when you wake up, you'll feel a lot better knowing all that bad stuff is long gone now. So don't sweat the bad days, because they, too, shall pass!

8. It can help you lose weight.

Honestly, if you're a night eater or you just have terrible cravings for junk food, then sleep can be beneficial. The more you sleep, the more you don't eat (duh, right?). But in all seriousness, studies have shown that sleeping allows weight to drop a little easier than if we were to skimp on our long night's rest. So sleep up to slim up, friends!

9. We feel a lot better afterwards.

No matter what has happened during the day, good or bad, stressful or not, sleeping always makes us feel better. That is, of course, unless you happen to wake during a stage of deep sleep – that's where the really nasty groggy mornings typically come from. But more sleep is always better than less sleep, and yields so many benefits to the body and mind that often go unnoticed. From helping us lose weight to allowing our bodies to recover from the day, sleep just has a way of making us feel wonderful almost every single time (excludes mornings where we're forced to get up, which is inevitably most mornings, unfortunately.)

10. Pajamas and blankets are the best remedy for anything.

Have you ever been upset changing into comfy pajamas and curling up in a soft pile of blankets? Exactly. No matter what goes wrong in life, a nice warm bed with a fresh set of pajamas always has a way of hitting us right in the heart. It's just so satisfying. We see people in public wearing pajamas from time to time, and honestly, who can blame them? Pajamas are the comfiest pieces of clothing out there! But really, though. Trust me when I say that pajamas and a pile of blankets is the best all-around remedy for anything and everything.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way.
