Honestly, there may be only one reason Valentine's Day is for couples, and that is to feed the capitalistic agenda of modern day society (I'm taking the "I'm cool with being single" approach so take none of this seriously, even though it's true. I am sure there are many reasons why couples would like to celebrate Valentine's Day with each other, but, I am not one of those people. So here are five reasons why being single on Valentine's Day can be a lot of fun.
1. You can spend time with your friends, no pressure
This is the perfect night for all the single gals and guys. Don't be afraid to put on your most glamorous pair of sweats and put on a chick flick marathon. There's no pressure to look perfect and no pressure to be anyone but yourself.
2. You don't have to spend money on anyone
Treat yourself, buy yourself a heart-shaped box of candy. Loving yourself should come before loving someone else. Spend the day focusing on you and your needs rather than someone you may have just met.
3. You don't have to fill some perfect picture of the idealized Valentine's Day
Take a look around. In every ad, in every commercial, heck, in every movie, there is an incoherent pressure to be perfect. Holidays are filled with this exact pressure. Relax, you are no mood to be that girl or guy in the ad.
4. Nothing is expected from you
Say goodbye to grand gestures and uncertain expectations, because when you're single, you can do anything, go out of your way and celebrate your love for someone non-romantic, like a friend, or a cousin, or a celebrity.
5. There's no shame in buying clearance Valentine's Day candy for the rest of the month
Yup, no judgment what so ever.
