Over the years, I have never really considered myself someone who watches Netflix. This is partially because my parents refused to pay for a distraction from my academics, but also it's because I have never found the time to sit in my bed and become addicted to a television series. However, I have recently discovered a show that has debunked my previous negative attitude toward Netflix, and that show is "The Office". Here's why:
1. It is SO FUNNY.
I've seen a lot of television shows that are funny. But no show has ever made me laugh out loud like "The Office" does. I have found that other comedies try a little too hard to make their viewers laugh, but this show doesn't even have to try. A lot of the things that the characters do and say are so stupid but so hilarious.
2. Most of the episodes are only 20 minutes.
My whole problem with getting involved with Netflix was that I did not want to take so much time away from my studies or social life. However, a 20-minute break here and there is the perfect amount of time for a break.
3. It's not THAT addicting.
I have watched two other series on Netflix in their entirety: One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl/ Although those shows were AMAZING, the difference between them and "The Office" is that the former took over my life. I would sit in my bed for weeks until the show was finished because I could not stand waiting to see what would happen in the next episode. "The Office" is such a casual watch; I can watch one 20 minute episode and then be perfectly okay not watching another for a week.
4. You can watch with your friends even if they've never seen the series.
Unlike the majority of shows, you don't really need to have watched "The Office" from the beginning to understand an episode. I could put on Season 5 Episode 6 with my friends and they would laugh just as hard as I do at the storyline without previously knowing any of the characters or even what the show is about.
5. Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute show us friendship goals on so many levels.
Enough said.
6. It has just the right amount of realness.
Who doesn't love a great love story in the middle of a hilarious comedy? This show has somehow managed to make their episodes 95% jokes, but that 5 percent seriousness is just the right amount to pull our hearts into the show without being so overdramatic.
7. It proves that "that's what she said" jokes are actually funny.
And no matter how many times Michael Scott says them, they will never get old.
8. The jokes are completely unfiltered.
Some of the things they say are so offensive but it's SO FUNNY.
9. It's taught us that it's okay to do what we want despite the opinion of others.
And sounding/looking like an idiot is completely okay.
10. It's given us hope that one day work will actually be fun.
If my job is even a little bit like the office on this show, I will a very happy working woman.
