10 Reasons Why Tattoos Should Not Be Judged

There's a stigma with tattoos in today's society. Automatically people judge and discriminate for the choices people make with their bodies. Tattoos are a form of art and self expression and don't mean that one person is a bad egg because they have words written on their arms. With more and more people turning to tattoos to express themselves, don't you think it's time to stop judging?

1. It's not your body being permanently inked is it?

When a person gets nosey and asks about something in your life you say "it's none of your business" and if it's not your body should it be your business?

2. There could be a deeper meaning than what meets the eye.

Some people have a deeper meaning to a tattoo then what your mind conjures up. Some people get tattoos in honor of someone passing or overcoming something, where your comment could offend someone's deceased grandfather or child.

3. People express their individuality through ink.

Sometimes it can be hard to show individualism in today's society as we have been modeled into this mold similar to everyone else. Tattoos can be a way to show self expression.

4. Don't judge a book by it's cover.

A butterfly tattoo on one's body could be judged as trashy when in reality it's covering a scar from where a tumor was removed. Someone's opinion of "trashy" is the tattoo recipients way of expressing their road to recovery and how they have transformed into something they never thought was possible.

5. Religion doesn't mean damnation

Just because you're Christian or Catholic shouldn’t mean you should be scolded for having tattoos on your body. In many cases, people have gotten religious tattoos with bible verses or symbols that have religious meanings. If they're glorifying or honoring a higher power such as God, why is it such a horrible thing?

6. Different people different stories

Tattoos could express a journey in that person's life that they have overcome such as a disease or a life long struggle they have finally beaten.

7. Don't judge a book by it's cover

People can be judged on their personality and lifestyle by the tattoos they have. You could deny that person a job because they are covered head to toe in tattoos and you're first reaction is that they are trouble. In reality that person covered in tattoos could be the most dedicated and hardworking person you have ever met.

8. My body my right

Our bodies are our canvas' and we have the right to do whatsoever with our canvas' as we choose. Just because you don't like the art of the canvas does not mean you have to be negative about the art or the artist.

9. Tattoos aren't gendered

A women with tattoos should not be judged negatively upon her appearance. Women can be judged as "trashy" or "slutty" for having tattoos in some cases. That women with tattoos who you think looks "trashy" could be the nurse who had taken care of you in the hospital the other week.

10. It's my life

Do people tell you how to live your life? No? Then don't try to control someone else's by judging their life choices and the way they choose to display their bodies.

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
