Happy summer! My favorite time of the year, where everyone gets a little tanner, a little happier, and the sun shines a little brighter. Here are 10 reasons why summer is the best season!

1. Daily Ice Cream

Not that you need one, but summer is the perfect excuse to eat ice cream for every meal. I’m not sure what it is, but it just tastes so much better during the summertime.

2. The Beach and its Sunsets

Who doesn’t love the beach?! Going to the beach is an experience in itself, but watching the sunset there is a whole other adventure. The colors are more vibrant, and the world seems so peaceful; there’s nothing like it.

3. New Music

Artists are known to release new music in honor of summer. Be on the lookout for new songs from all of your favorite singers!

4. Driving With the Windows Down

Blasting all of that new music in the car with your besties. Windows down and driving along all of the windy back roads.

5. School's Out

Unless you're taking summer classes, you're done with school for the next 4(ish) months! Which also means you will be able to hangout with all of your home friends, who some of you probably haven't seen since before school started.

6. Summer Foods

Watermelon and BBQ’s, need I say more!? Sure you have these year-round, but they are definitely yummier during the summertime.

7. Tan

I don’t know about you, but I automatically feel 100 times better when I’m tan. My skin looks clearer, my outfits look cuter, and I just feel so much more confident.

8. Cute Outfits

Sundresses, jean shorts, and flip-flops galore. Not only are summer outfits cuter, but they’re also so much easier to pick out! Throw on a pair of shorts and a cute top with sandals, and you're ready to go.

9. Vacations

Whether you go near or far, summer is a prime vacation time. It’s the perfect time to encounter new cultures, new sights, and new experiences.

10. Make Money

With all of this time off, summer is the best time to get a job and make up for all of the money you probably spent at school. That way, when summer ends (sad), you can spend all your money at school again!

* * *

Summer is the season of spontaneity. Hang out with your friends, travel, and eat ice cream for dinner. But most importantly, make sure you do what you can to enjoy the best season ever!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
