Our generation seems to have no idea what the actually meaning of love is and how to maintain relationships. When a problem arises, we can give up easily because there is always someone else new to meet on Tinder. We care more about our Instagram likes and how many people we have "relations" with rather than trying to build lasting relationships. Cheating is such a normal thing now because no one knows how to make any commitments to anything anymore—we can get anything we want just by pushing a few buttons on our smartphones. Living the “hook up” life can be fun for a while, but aren’t lasting connections more important and life fulfilling? Imagine waking up to someone who calls you beautiful or handsome every morning and supports you through everything you dreamed of doing. Having someone who will listen to all the random thoughts in your brain, who will hug you as tears run down your face, who will be there when no one else is, and who knows you better than anyone else sounds amazing, doesn't it? Relationships are amazing, and I don’t understand why people push them away so much today—relationships don’t ruin your freedom unless you’re in the wrong relationship. Here are 10 reasons to prove that relationships are actually a great thing and why we need to cherish them more than we do today.
1. You have a teammate for life:
Living in the real world is a scary concept—going to college on your own, learning how to make your own doctor's appointments, making new friends, applying for jobs, paying bills, finding apartments, paying for food, and doing your own laundry can be quiet overwhelming on your own. However, if you have that special someone by your side, you can have fun learning how to do all of those things without the fear of being alone. (You both can also look like fools trying to be adults and not feel stupid when you mess up.)

2. There is always someone there that will listen to you:
When you’re having a bad day or need to rant about that annoying co-worker, your significant other is always there to listen to you—and they actually enjoy it! You can literally talk about anything and everything you want for hours and not even notice the time flying by. From important topics about your future and politics to ugly hairstyles, you and your special someone can talk about anything together.
3. You have someone to go on crazy adventures with:
That spontaneous trip to New York City you’ve always wanted to do can actually be a reality in a relationship. When you have someone else by your side, taking trips aren’t as scary as doing them alone and you have someone pushing you to do them. Want to go downtown to the art festival—take your boyfriend. Want to rock climb in the middle of nowhere—take your girlfriend. They love just spending time with you, and those crazy adventures will make you grow even stronger.
4. You always have a support system:
No matter what you are going through, you know your person will always be there with you through it all. If you are dealing with a mental illness, intense stress, a death in the family, financial troubles, or other misfortunes, you know that you will always have your boyfriend or girlfriend there to love you anyway. No matter what happens in your life, you never have to worry about them leaving you, and having someone there always tends to make your life a little bit better.
5. You can be your true self around them:
No mask is needed around your boyfriend or girlfriend. If you are together long enough, chances are that they're going to see every flaw you have—or think you have—and they're going to love you even more for it. That ugly mole you have on your back—they’ll think it's the cutest thing ever. If you don’t think you’re beautiful one morning, they are there to tell you otherwise because you’re always perfect in their eyes. You can be your complete, utter, and goofy self around them, and the best part is that they’ll be that way around you, too.
6. They understand you better than anyone else:
They know how to make you happy when you’re having a bad day, they know all your favorite foods, what you want when you’re sick, how to handle you when you’re stressed, and when you need time by yourself. They know what friends you enjoy and the friends you’re always on and off with. They know who your celebrity crushes are and how you cry every time you watch "The Notebook." They know how you like to cuddle and how annoying you are when you sleep. If you guys are together long enough, you can even know each other’s facial expressions and know exactly what they're thinking. They just get you when no one else seems to.
7. They are your biggest supporter:
The older you get, the more your dreams seem unrealistic and unachievable. You decide to become a teacher instead of an artist because it’s safer and you’ll be sure to make money to support yourself. However, that special someone will notice how amazing your talents are and will tell you to follow your dreams. They’re your biggest believer when someone tells you you’ll never make it or your dreams are stupid. Your dreams will seem more achievable again because you have someone telling you that you can do it. They’ll remind you that life is more than just making money and surviving—it's about doing what you love and being as happy as you possibly can be.

8. They balance you out:
If you’re a workaholic, your significant other will be there to remind you to have fun and to take a break and enjoy life a little. If you tend to enjoy life a little too much, your significant other will be there to remind you to buckle down and work first before having fun. If you’re a shy person, they’ll introduce you to other people and help you become more sociable, and you’ll be there to encourage them to chill every now and then. They have traits that you may need to work on, and you’ll have traits that you can give them as well.
9. They make you want to be a better person: Even if they love all the flaws you might think you have, you’ll still work to change them because they inspire you to be better for them. If you’re a jealous person, you’ll work on your jealously to prevent fights from happening and to be a more trusting person. If you don’t shower every day, you’ll shower more to smell good for them. You change things about your life for the better and because you want to—they never force you to change because they love the way you are, but you’ll become a better person because of them and for yourself.10. They bring meaning into your life:
You may wander around wondering why you belong here and what your purpose is. But when you have that other person with you, everything just seems to make sense and you feel like you finally belong. Nothing really feels complete until you have that other person with you—your life has meaning when you’re with them because you’re here for them. They’re your other half and, even when you may not know where you’re going in life, you know that they will always be there with you.
Relationships take work, but they are amazing when you find the right person to be with. So get off Tinder and stop looking for one time "hookups." Having someone love you this much might seem impossible, but I promise it's the most amazing thing in the world.
