10 Reasons Why October Is The Best Month In Augusta, GA

I'm a mouse, duh.

October is easily the best month out of the year for many, many, many, many reasons but here are my ten favorites.

1. The Weather

In the South, October is the time when everything starts to cool down. Instead of having to worry about if we're going to melt throughout the day we can worry about if carrying a light sweater is necessary.

2. The Clothes

Even though it still can get up into the eighties during the day, everyone starts breaking out their favorite fall trends even if they aren't the most practical.

3. The Music

I'm a big fan of calmer and folkier music year-round, but there's no denying artists like Hozier, The Lumineres, and Keaton Henson sound better when fall is just around the corner.

4. The Books

Reading is something I try to incorperate into my everyday life and it makes it so much easier to do when there's a chill in the air and I can curl up with a great piece of literature.

5. The Bonfires

October is the time when having bonfires is a good idea again! If you were to do it any sooner in the year, you'd just be quietly melting from the southern heat that's not being helped by the raging fire next to you.

6. The Bugs

Finally the little critters seem to start fading from your life so you don't have to worry about covering yourself with Skin So Soft before walking out of the door.

7. Football

Admittedly I'm not the biggest fan of football, but watching games gives friends and family a chance to come together and bond over something they mutually love.

8. Powder Puff

My school's Powder Puff game is the only football game that I have ever genuinely cared about. Being a senior in high school I can't believe that this will be my last time watching it, but I know we're going to be the reigning cheerleading champs!

9. Halloween

This comes as no surprise since Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. I love seeing how much effort put into their costumes and watching everyone take a step back from reality and letting loose for one night.

10. The Nature

Where I live we don't have the most distinct seasons, so October has a very special place in my heart. There's a very small span of time where my town looks autumnal and it usually happens in late October, right before all of the beautiful leaves are swiped from the trees.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
