10 Reasons Why New York Is The Best State

New York. We see it in movies, we see it on the news, we read about it in books and magazines and if you don't live there, you, more often than not, wish you did. It's a place like no other and can't be compared to anywhere else. No matter where you are in the state, there's always something so charming and exciting about being in New York-it's a feeling like no other. So here are ten reasons why New York is the best. And New York, I love you. Thank you for being the best home state any one could ask for.

1. You have places like New York City....

2. But you also have places like Upstate New York(Wine Country, Lake George, The American Side of Niagara Falls, The Catskills etc.)

Both parts of New York are equally exciting, beautiful and fun.

3. Nothing can beat a slice of pizza from a local pizzeria or a fresh bagel from a local bagel store.

4. Speaking of food, New York has the best of it.

Whether it be fancy 5-Star Restaurants you can find on 5th Avenue or the locally grown fruits and vegetables. (And once you leave the state, you have a hard time finding anything else acceptable.

5. New York is the backdrop for some of the most popular TV shows, movies, songs and books.

Shoutout to 'Gossip Girl', 'Friends', 'Law and Order SVU', ,'Seinfeld' 'Sex and the City', 'The GodFather', 'GoodFellas' 'Home Alone 2' 'Miracle on 34'th Street,' 'Maid in Manhattan', 'King Kong' 'Hitch' '27 Dresses' 'Night at the Musuem' 'Friends with Benefits' 'Spiderman' and 'How To Loose a Guy In Ten Days', 'Empire State of Mind', 'New York, New York', 'Welcome to New York' and also a shoutout to "The Clique Books" (Thank you for being my favorite books in middle school and for also being a kind of accurate representation of Westchester.

6. Sports.

Being a New York sports fan is probably one of the best things in the world. From the Yankees to the Mets to the Giants and the Jets, the Rangers and the Islanders to the Nets and Knicks, it's always an exciting season and there's always an insane energy at every game. Not to mention that New York is home to some of the most successful sports teams in the history of professional sports. (Shoutout to the Yankees for being the best of the best.)

7. All four seasons.

New York is one of the best places to see all four seasons. In the summer, you won't be sweating your clothes off (@all of the southern part of American I'm talking to you). In the winter, you'll freeze, but it's nothing compared to the freezing that takes place in places like New Hampshire, Vermont or Maine. And the two in between seasons? Well, there's nothing like seeing the different color of leaves from the top of a mountain in upstate New York and there's nothing like seeing all the buds on the trees and all the flowers start to grow throughout Central Park.

8. Holidays.

No one does the Holiday's quite like New York. Whether it be Macy's Fireworks on Fourth of July or it's Thanksgiving Day Parade, or the decorated windows and big tree during Christmas season, or a small town's local holiday and summer parade, there is nothing quite like the holiday's in New York. No matter what holiday it is and whether you're in the big city or not, there's always something fun and festive happening and you can never say that it was boring.

9. Because it's a melting pot.

No matter where you go throughout New York, you'll find people of all different races, religions, ethnicities and backgrounds. The population is diverse like no other, and you won't find a better mix of people anywhere else.

10. Because it's New York.

Honestly, I could go on and on about why New York is the best state, and that the other 49 just don't compare. But I won't because I don't need to. This state speaks for itself and there is nothing in the world that can ever come close to being as special as New York is. Whether it's the beautiful landscape that makes up Upstate, or the hustle and bustle that is New York City, nothing ever can and nothing ever will come close to the excitement and rush you can get just by being there.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
