10 Reasons Why New York City Will Always Have My Heart

I remember getting my first taste of the big apple when I first visited my uncle in Queens. He would always drive all the way to New Jersey to come get my brother and I then right back to Queens again (if that’s not love then I don’t know what is). I loved how he always did it at night. He says it was to beat traffic but for me, it was so much more. Enjoyed watching all the lights and people as we drove through midtown to get to the Queens bound tunnel. To get back home he would go through SoHo to get to the Lincoln Tunnel, and I woulda admire all the unique fashions of the people I saw. That’s why years later I decided to go to school for fashion in one of the major fashion capitals. Moving here was one of the best decisions of my life and here are some reasons why!

#1 Foods From All Over The Globe

You can eat foods from all over the world without having to leave the city! From Chinese to Thai to Italian, you have it all!

#2 The Nightlife

The nightlife is absolutely amazing! You don’t have to be 21 to go clubbing. If you’re 19+, head over to Webster Hall on Friday and Saturday nights.

#3 Occasional Celebrity Sightings

Although Los Angeles is where many celebrities reside but New York City is the 2nd home for others! The best time to catch these celebs is during fashion week, the Met Gala, and whenever they decide to launch a little pop up shop event!

#4 A Chopped Cheese

One way I survived my first year of college was this sandwich which contained ground beef, yellow American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, mayo, and ketchup , on a roll or hero. It's very convenient if you are broke and literally have only $5 in your account.

#5 Thrifting

The best place to go thrifting in NYC is in Brooklyn such as LTrainVintage and Urban Jungle. They have some of the best vintage stores and its very cheap but the quality of the clothing is actually amazing which is a plus. But if you want more vintage designer brands, check out Beacon's closet. Plus you can sell clothes there and get some cash!

#6 SoHo

SoHo is the place to witness some of the best street style looks. Theres also the cutest little spots to have brunch at and after you can of course, shop!

#6 Central Park

I mean, it's a park...in the middle of a city? What's more unique and cooler than that. Take a nice stroll or jog during the spring and summer months. Grab a city bike and ride! You won't regret it!

#7 Late Night Adventures

Suffer from insomnia or just bored late at night? Go explore the city a little more. Hey, you never know, you might see or experienced things you never have before! A friend and I used to just go and take her camera and start in SoHo taking pictures then end up on the other side of the city by walking and not even realize where we are sometimes. There's no better time to something like that than at night. There's just something special and magical about exploring the city at night that makes me feel much more carefree and wild.

#8 Beautiful People

I swear I fall in love with a different hottie on the subway everyday but never have the courage to shoot my shot. But seriously, I have never seen so many beautiful people in my entire life.

#9 New York Pizza

There's honestly nothing like it. It's truly the best pizza I have ever had, hands down!

# It's New York City, Duh!

Its the greatest city in the world and I wouldn't trade it for the world!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
