10 Reasons Why I'm A Cat Person

I have always had a cat. Since I was born a shocking 23 years ago, there has always been a cat(or several) lounging around wherever I lived. Jade, Whiskers, Mischief, Jasmine, Javacreme, Jaspurr, Duffy, Biscuit and Buttercream, the first four of whom have passed away, the next two are my cats from when I lived at home, Dufy is my grandmother's and the last two are my precious little ones. Don't get me wrong though. I love dogs and am positive that I will have a dog someday too, but for now, I have my two babies. The following are several reasons why I am a cat person.

The following photos were all taken by myself.

Orange and White Cat = Buttercream

Black and White Cat = Biscuit

Gray and White Cat= Duffy

1. They Don't Constantly Need Your Attention

Cats are rather self-sufficient. You can leave for work in the morning knowing you'll come home to two cats who could honestly care less that you were gone all day. They were most likely sleeping anyways.

2. You Can Leave Them Alone For A Couple Days

Unlike dogs, if you need to leave town for a weekend, cats are totally okay by themselves. Fill up their food dishes with extra food, set out a couple more dishes for water and scoop their litter box right before you leave. You don't have to worry about accidents on the floor while you're gone, and you don't have to worry about finding a sitter who can come over and walk them three or four times a day. Whenever I leave for a few days with my fiance, we make sure everything they could possibly need is ready for them. If it's more than a couple days, my future in-laws come over once a day to check in on them for a few minutes.

3. Cats Are Low Maintenance

What I mean by this is you don't have to take them for walks. Sure going on walks with a dog can be fun, as long as the weather is nice. But rain, snow or blistering heat can make walks uncomfortable for both you and your pup. With cats, you just empty a litter box and call it good.

4. Cats Are Easily Entertained

Buttercream's all time favorite toy is a hair tie. She always finds them, no matter where I hide them, and she will play with them for hours without getting bored. She also likes anything with a feather. And cat toys are fairly cheap. You can get ten packs of jiggle balls(as I like to call them) for like 3 bucks.

5. Cats Are Cuddly

This doesn't mean that dogs aren't. I know plenty of dogs who like to cuddle. But having a 70-pound dog laying on you is nowhere near as pleasant as having a 10-pound cat laying on you. Or beside you even. And they are content just lying with you. No pets necessary.

6. Cats Are Weird

Cats just do really weird things all the time. Like the cat face. You all know what I'm talking about. The face they make when they smell something weird and open their mouths. Cats also lay in strange positions and strange places.

7. Cats Don't Make You Do Your Homework

A trending theme about cats is that they really enjoy sitting on whatever you are trying to do. Whether it is walking across your laptop while you're writing a paper(or an article, yes I'm looking at you, Buttercream) or deciding your textbook is the most comfortable place in the entire word to lay down.

8. Cats Are Beautiful

Once again, I am not saying that dogs aren't. I am simply stating that I have seen very few ugly cats in my life and a lot of ugly dogs.

9. Cats Will Sleep In Everywhere and Anywhere

Buttercream is the master of finding weird places to sleep. In the winter time, she sleeps inside of my winter coat. Biscuit sleeps behind the couch squished against the heater.

10. Cats Will Love You Unconditionally

My two cats have been moved a few times and had to adjust to new people quite often. For Buttercream, it's no big deal. She loves everyone and makes friends with everyone quickly. For Biscuit, however, it's really hard for him to trust people. Every time he gets used to someone, it's time to move and for him to meet new people again. Now that I've been settled in an apartment and living with the same person for over a year, Biscuit has really come out of his shell. He's a mama's boy, but boy does he love my fiance.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
