Going home for the summer is bittersweet. Part of you is going to miss college and all its perks a lot, but the other part of you is itching to run home for an always perfect Mattituck summer. Summer in Mattituck is like no other, and those of us who live there are blessed to be able to look forward to it every year. Here are 10 reasons why you can't wait to pack your stuff up and go home for summer in our beautiful little small town.

1. The beach

Obviously this is the best part of living so close to the water in the summer. Whether you like the sound side or the bay side, Vets Beach or Breakwater, all the beaches are equally as nice. All will definitely satisfy your need for some vitamin D.

2. Wendy's Deli

Mattituck is known for having a few amazing food places, and Wendy's Deli is one of the best. Although open all year, nothing beats eating a Wendy's sandwich while sitting on the beach soaking up the sun.

3. Magic Fountain

The definition of the sweet taste of summertime. An homemade ice cream on sweltering summer day tastes the best in Mattituck. We're coming for you, cookie monster.

4. Home Friends

Enjoying warm, stress-free days with your best friends from home who you've barely seen all year is one of the greatest gifts of summer.

5. The Strawberry Festival

One of the greatest weekends of the year, almost all North Fork residents would agree. It marks the official end of the school year and the beginning of summer. What better way to start then with carnival rides and tons of chocolate covered strawberries. Plus, the strawberry shortcake is honestly one of my favorite things in this world. Are you counting down the days until you can eat it again?

6. Wineries

Who doesn't love a crisp glass of wine in the summer? Mattituck wineries serve some of the best.

7. Driving

Driving with your windows down and the music blasting through Mattituck really makes me realize why we love it so much. Driving down Sound Avenue, Route 48 or the North Road while everything is blossomed and for once your small town isn't a ghost town is one of the best sights.

8. Bonfires

Crisp summer nights call for bonfires on your favorite beaches with your friends. The smell of burnt hair just reminds you of summer now.

9. Love Lane

The prettiest in the summer, all the places to eat mostly offer outside dining and it's just a pretty street to stroll down in the summer. The Love Lane Kitchen is a cute little breakfast spot that won't disappoint.

10. Sunsets

They're just breathtaking.

These are only some of the reasons why we can't wait to settle our toes in the sand, for a summer in the place we're lucky enough to call home--Mattituck.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
