10 Reasons Why Galentine's Should Be a Real Holiday

This time of year finds many of us taking stock in the relationships we have made, particularly on Valentine's Day. Now there are plenty of people that don't love the holiday, but it is undeniable that receiving chocolates or a fluffy bear are anything but fantastic. For those who want to show appreciation to their other loved ones, Galentine's Day is a perfect way to celebrate the ladies in your life. Now for anyone unfamiliar with this holiday, look no further than Amy Poehler's character from Parks and Recreation, Leslie Knope. Pawnee's favorite waffle loving heroine seemingly created the holiday, which takes place February 13, and is essentially the ultimate girls day out. Below are 10 reasons why it should be a legitimate holiday, read on to find out!

1. It is a day to recognize your friendships.

Because if there was ever a time to celebrate your besties, the day before Valentine's day is a sure way to swat away any romantic blues for your single friends.

2. The celebration is anything you make it.

Brunch, bowling, salon time or what have you, these and more can be on your personalized Galentine's Day itinerary.

3. It is a chance to impress with thoughtful gifts.

Because if women are one thing, they are usually good listeners, and this day gives you the chance to prove how well you listen to your friends.

4. Best friends are forever.

No matter who will be around on Valentine's Day, your girls will be there for you all of the time. It's like this holiday was built on the foundation of girl code.

5. It is a day to forge new friendships.

It is a day when you can bring friends from different parts of your life together to find common ground and build each other up.

6. It is a chance to speak from the heart.

You may know that your friends will always be there, but it is also nice to reaffirm the promise that you have each other's backs, no matter how awkward it is to speak from the heart.

7. It is a time to reminisce.

Telling old stories and giving into nostalgia is a great way to look back on your friendships.

8. It is a way to treat yo' self and others.

Because the pressure is almost always off when it comes to your besties, this day is a chance to treat them and yourself.

9. The day can turn into a celebration of strengths.

If you and your friends were all the same, it would make for a lackluster day. Make sure to acknowledge your differences and understand that there is a reason you are all friends.

10. Because the word of Leslie Knope is final and never wrong.

Enough said.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
