10 Reasons Why Galentine's Day Is Better Than Valentine's Day

As Valentine's Day approaches, people often forget about Galentine's Day, the "Parks and Recreation" holiday that is on its way to becoming a national holiday, which is celebrated on Feb. 13. Here are 10 reasons why Galentine's Day is the best day ever and why Galentine's day shouldn't be overlooked or left uncelebrated.

1. Hos before bros

2. Your girlfriends are more reliable

Unlike Shauna’s boyfriend who bailed on their trip to Rome because he decided to stay with his wife.

3. Galentine's Day is a women-only marathon bonding session

Galentine's Day is a marathon bonding session that provides a deeper connection to your girlfriends, whereas Valentine's Day is solely a commercial holiday that overcharges you to create a “deep connection” with your valentine that is falsely created through the giving of flowers, chocolate, teddy bears, etc.

4. Frittatas

Sure, your valentine might take you out to a nice dinner, but can anything compare to a round, deep, savory custard, made especially for you and your girlfriends? Do pigs fly? That’s right, I don’t think so.

5. Your girlfriends always exceed expectations

While we’re sitting waiting for a text back from our special friend, our best friends are double-texting us paragraphs every other minute. Or maybe spending hours creating a mosaic of your face.

6. No need to get all dressed up

Let’s face it, your best friends have seen you at your absolute worst, so show up in whatever you want. Heck, you don’t even have to bother shaving or buying that $70 bra and panty set from Victoria Secret!

7. Did I mention goodie bags?

If you’re lucky you’ll get some flowers or chocolates followed by a romantic evening on Valentine's Day, but does your valentine ever send you home with a 5,000-word essay on why you’re so awesome?

8. Cheaper

No new outfit or undergarments necessary just a little bit of cash to kick it breakfast style with a few of your ladyfriends.

9. Galentine's Day is a holiday meant for all the single ladies out there

Being a single lady myself, I know how much Valentine's Day sucks for all my single ladies out there. While our friends are being appreciated by the kindest gestures, we’re at home eating sale chocolates wishing we could get a little love too.

10. And lastly, because Galentine's Day is the best day of the year

Reasons one through nine aren’t even necessary because Galentine's Day needs no explanation. It is the best day of the year as well as the best national holiday that never was.

So in closing, I’d like to make a toast: to girlfriends! Also, shout-out to my girlfriends for always supporting all of my endeavors.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
