From the first day I started watching One Tree Hill I wanted nothing more than to be Brooke Davis. She was both beautiful and poised. Brooke was able to take on the world by a flick of a switch but she didn't know she could. She was able to stand for her beliefs and show just how strong she really is. She made her mistakes and had her flaws. To me, she was a role model on an attainable level. I still look to this character for life lessons and when making decisions. The whole show is quite inspiring but Brook Davis is the one that can be related to the most in my opinion. In certain situations I sometimes think, “What would Brooke Davis do?” When watching TV shows we aspire to be characters. With that said, I believe that we should all aspire to be a little bit like Brooke Davis.
1. Your past does not define your future.
“High School Brooke” was someone that she herself never liked. She was a teenager that had no stability and did whatever she wanted. She went through life making choices because they were easy, not because they were right. She didn’t care. Somewhere along the way she redefined herself. She didn’t want to be that person anymore and from there she changed her life. She became a happily married mother, a good one at that. She was also very successful with her Clothes Over Bros franchise. She took leaps and chances to create a future for herself. Something that herself and others had never believed was possible.
"I stopped letting boys define me, and i started believing in myself and my potential..."
2. Unapologetic in her vulnerability.
Brooke had never apologized for the way she felt or for expressing those feelings. That was something I always admired about Brooke. She was fearless with her feelings. Whether it was expressing her desperation for Lucas to want her back or confronting her mother Victoria about her parenting, Brooke never held back. If she was passionate enough about it she would fight for it especially if it was the right thing to do. She felt deeply without apology and she never tried to hide that.
"I am not pushing you away Lucas, I am holding on for dear life, but I need you to need me back!"
3. She successfully maintained a career and a family.
Brooke Davis is proof that you can have both a great career and a family all at the same time. She had put her all into Clothes Over Bros, she even put all over what she owned into it to save the company. However, her love for Julian and her children always took priority. She didn’t have to pick, the decision was made for her already, and it would always be family over everything. Brooke Davis knew she could handle it all and so could anyone else that wanted to.
"She was wrong and whatever she thought she saw in me was wrong, because I am one in a million... and there is a child out there... and I could be a great mother to that child."
4. She went after her dreams with no fear and her success didn’t change her.
Brooke created her Clothes Over Bros website as a high school student. After graduation it became a multi-million dollar company. She continuously fought for her company because it was her dream that she desperately wanted to succeed. Whether it was fighting Victoria or against the effects of the fraud committed by her mother. In the end, success never changed her. Brooke was always happiest in Tree Hill surrounded by her friends and family. She built a home for herself in high school to make up for the home that was never built for her. Even with all her success, she never let her ego get too big. She always remembered where she came from.
"Success is wonderful, but finding someone to love and having them love you back. Love is what its all about."
5. She was always there to give great advice and to listen.
Anytime Peyton or Haley needed someone to listen to their stories or problems Brooke was right there by their side. She always had words of advice or knew the right words to say in every situation. Sometimes all they really needed was reassurance that they were not alone in any situation, and she gave that to them.
"Life kicks you around sometimes. it scares you and beats you up, but there's a day when you realize you`re not just a survivor, you`re a warrior. You`re tougher then anything it throws your way, and you are, Peyton, you are."
6. And had enough sassy comebacks for those who deserved them.
Some of the most exciting scenes in One tree Hill became so much better with a witty, snappy comment by Brooke Davis. Her sass spread like wildfire through the people of Tree Hill. I sat in awe as I watched the sassy comments fly through the seasons. One can only hope that they can be as sassy and clever as Brooke Davis.
" I would punch you in your fake nose but you`d just go out and buy a new one.."
7. She waited for what she deserved.
We aren’t going to go through all the men that Brooke has been with through out the duration of One Tree Hill, including a sex tape with Nathan. However, it wasn’t until Julian that she decided to settle down. Brooke wasn’t going to accept less than she deserved and settling was never an option in her eyes. Every time before Julian when a man treated her like less than she deserved, she made sure he knew it and ended the relationship. Believing that you deserve better and knowing that you do are two different things. Brooke taught us that knowing is better than believing and that you should stick up for what you know. That waiting is worth it because in the end you will wind up with the fairy tale ending you deserve, just like Brooke did.
“Sometimes my heart aches at how good my life turned out, in a good way. It doesn’t mean there haven’t been hardships; there have been. But I’m here. And here is good.”8. She fought back when it was necessary. After being attacked at her store it was hard for her, but she refused to back down. She didn’t even tell anyone that she was attacked until days later, she just made up an excuse that she fell. She gathered up the courage to move past her fears and to protect herself against any situation. She even learned to handle a gun. Brooke was very open about what she feared but in the end she never let them cripple her.
“You don’t know me. I’m not the same girl from the store that night; she’s gone. You took my life, and you turned it into a nightmare. And all that I have thought about is that I hate you. I hate you…"
9. She knew when to let things go.
There was a time that she had the chance to shoot her attacker. She then took the higher road. In addition, she didn’t hold the affair with Lucas over Peyton`s head forever. She was able to recognize when enough was enough. She chose not to throw away years of a friendship over a boy. She definitely knew how to fight dirty when it was necessary but in other situations was able to be the bigger person and not dwell over conflict. There was so much more to life than dwelling on the past and on conflict.
10. She would change the world one day.
A quote written by Lucas in his book “An Unkindness of Ravens”, defined just how much Lucas believed in her when no one else did, not even herself. “Brooke Davis is going to change the world someday. And I’m not even sure she knows it.” And Lucas Scott knows what he’s talking about.
