If you're parents are relatively old, then you most likely grew up listening to classic rock music. As a classic rock kid you totally remember that time on the bus when of all of your friends were listening to Britney Spears while you were jamming out to Journey.
Looking back on that now, you have your parents to thank for giving you the greatest gift of knowing what real music is.
In a world filled with new pop stars rising from the dust every week, auto tuned one hit wonders and lip synched performances nothing compares to the real iconic bands you grew up listening to.
You know you're a classic rock kid or you just played a lot of guitar hero growing up, if you agree with these:
1. Real Instruments
Hearing actual instruments being played by actual musicians is truly what music is all about.
2. Artists were the songwriters
Some of the greatest songs of all time were written by band members, something that definitely lacks in todays "artists."
3. No Autotune
Clearly something that didn't exist back then, but in todays "music" every song you hear is touched up and unrealistic to the singers actual voice.
4. Music Legends
Bands like The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Journey, Guns N' Roses those are legends. Todays kids don't really have anyone that iconic to look up to in the music industry.
5. The Commercial Aspect
Pop music is all about image and money these days, something musicians back then could give two shits about, and thats what makes it so real.
6. Pop is easy, Rock is really hard.
Pop stars basically show up and "sing" Rock stars have to preform, and slave to the grind every night on tour.
7. Famous for music not appearance
Rock musicians never really had to deal with image or appearance, it was all about the music, this is completely different in todays music.
8. LIVE PERFORMANCE
If you can go to a show and say wow that sounded even better than it did on the album, you just saw a musician not some pop star.
9. Album Art
Most great rock bands had actual art for album covers, not some scantily dressed guy or girl on it for no reason other than their image.
10. It never gets old
That song you hear on the radio over and over again at some point it will get old, and so will that pop star. But Rock N' Roll music will never die.
If you're a 20 year old that still listens to your parents favorite rock bands, you made it.
