1. Location, location, location.
Caught somewhere in the middle of Jersey is where you’ll find over 30,000 students along the banks of the Old Raritan. Rutgers is located in such a prime area because we’re a half hour away from the shore, an hour away from New York City, and two hours away from Philly. Students at Rutgers are able to accept prime internships and jobs in famous cities while still being able to take classes. Let us know if your school can say that when they aren’t located in a one of those cities.
2. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, knows about us.
It’s impossible to drive down the block even at home without seeing a R magnet attached to the bumper of someone’s car. We are known domestically and abroad for our academics, athletics, and prestigious upholding.Yes, that is an ad for our school in Times Square. Sorry universities of New York City, we're taking over.3. Your university has one campus? Psh, that’s cute.
Rutgers is home to five different campuses that make up Rutgers – New Brunswick. Each class you take will have different scenery, so it’s impossible to get bored around here. So you don’t like what the dining hall on your campus is serving for dinner tonight? Take a bus to a different one; they’ll be serving something completely different.
4. Three words: Big 10 Athletics. Our school pride didn’t begin when we entered the Big 10. Entering the conference only enhanced it. There’s no better way to spend your Saturday than chanting “R-U Rah Rah” (you know the rest) at a football game after we score a touchdown. Not to mention that one of the best women soccer players in the WORLD played at our school. That’s right, Carly Lloyd once called Rutgers her home, she might even have lived in your old dorm room.
5. Not into sports? That’s cool too.
Rutgers has over 450 ways students can become involved on campus. Anything you can think of – we have it: fraternity/sorority life, academic clubs and honor societies, and for you Harry Potter fanatics, we even have our own Quidditch team (hate to brag, but that’s pretty cool).
6. We have some of the smartest professors in the country.
We also have more faculty than any New York metro area institution. In just one year, our faculty teaches over 20,000 plus courses. Our faculty is so good that we rank #20 in Computer Science, #27 in Mathematics, #43 in Physics, and #27 in Arts and Humanities across the world. To say the least, our professor rock.
7. We aren’t just recognized for academics and athletics, but food as well.
I’m sure everyone has heard of a ‘Fat Sandwich’ before. Famous to Rutgers is our grease trucks called “RU Hungry?” Fat sandwiches are stuffed with French fries, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, and so much more. Our grease trucks are so well known that Man vs. Food even made an appearance on our campus and failed our Fat Sandwich challenge.
8. Connections.
If you were born into a Rutgers’ family, you were #blessed. If you’re anything like my family, then your dad probably attended Rutgers, your uncle too (since your dad went there), at least five cousins went as well, and don’t forget all of your doctors and dentists who ask how the university has changed since they last went there. Home to hundreds of thousands of alumni, you’ll be able to make connections to people wherever you go.
9. We were founded before our country was.
We’ve been Revolutionary for 250 years, people. Not many universities have those bragging rights. Not only was our school asked to become an Ivy League University, but also we turned down that offer so we could be a powerhouse state school.
10. The people.
Rutgers is where you meet your best friends for life. Rutgers’ Jersey roots don’t just stem from the university itself, but from most students who attend as well. The majority of your friends will come from somewhere within Jersey, so you won’t have to travel far to see them during breaks or the summer or even after you graduate.Rutgers University is my home away from home. It is where I am able to receive the best college experience with tremendous academic credentials. Choosing Rutgers was the best decision of my life because I get to be a part of the making of history. 250 years after our founding date, I get to be a student who is able to experience the advancement of technology, engineering, health, and business all while attending Rutgers. Our alma mater has also stayed true to us throughout all these years: “Rutgers’ name shall never die, on the banks of the Old Raritan.”
