There are some perks of going to CalU that make it better than the rest.
1. It's a small college.
CalU is a really small college compared to others around the area. Maybe a smaller sized school isn't for everyone, but if you go to CalU, you learn to appreciate it. A small college means smaller class sizes, individualized help and more of an opportunity for the professors to get to know you.
2. You have the chance to make really good friends.
This point goes along with the first one... a smaller sized college means you have the opportunity to make really good friends. Yes, you can still make good friends if you go to a larger college, but you don't have the tight knit friend groups that you'll experience from a larger school.
3. You get more opportunities.
CalU is known for it's slogan "CalU for life" and they do nothing short but live up to that standard. CalU brings job fairs in, motivational speakers in, and probably anything else you can think of. You get networking opportunities by going to this university before you even graduate.
4. It helps keep the town of California alive.
Having a college in a small town in really great economically. As much as the townies don't want to admit it, California, PA would be NOTHING without the college, and that is proven when the town turns into a ghost town when school isn't in session. The college students will spend their money at the gas station, the food establishments, and the clothing stores. This brings in money and jobs to the town.
5. CalU is close to Pittsburgh.
You can ALWAYS find something to do in Pittsburgh (see my previous article link here if you need convincing). One a bad day, it takes about an hour to make it to the city, so if students at CalU are bored a fun day/night is only a drive away.
6. We are getting a Chick-fil-a.
Chick-fil-a is basically the best fast food restaurant around. CalU's Chick-fil-a will be the only one in the area. Not only will it help the students by giving them another food option, but the community will also have the best fast food establishment right in their hometown (thumbs up from all of the high school kids).
7. You get a hometown vibe by going to CalU.
The small town filled with families, close community, and tight knit group of friends makes you feel like you're really at home, no matter how far "home" is from California, PA. I don't think it gets much better than that.
8. CalU has wonderful professors.
The professors at CalU always do look out for the best interest of the students. They're always willing to stay a few extra minutes after class to explain things or go over an assignment. They set realistic expectations for the students. The professors at CalU want their students to succeed... they prepare them for life after college.
9. CalU has really well known majors.
CalU is known for a teaching school. It also has a really good Communication Disorders (Speech Pathology) program. Those are only to name a few, CalU has other majors with wonderful professors. Add that in with all the other benefits you're getting from CalU and your diploma is looking really good.
10. It's cheap.
You're paying a small fee (compared to other schools) to get a really good education. Financially, CalU makes sense. Need I say more?
