Everyone always talks about how they want a Chuck Bass or how they want a relationship like Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf. But do you really? If you stop and think about it for even 5 minutes, I have a feeling you would change your mind. Yes, you may want to be Blair Waldorf, but I am not sure that anyone would actually deal with Chuck Bass for that long. I mean come on, you need to have enough self-respect for yourself to not put yourself through that kind of torture. Yes, Chuck has had a hard life and he does eventually get better. But look at that word eventually. It takes a very long time for him to actually change.
1. The way Chuck treated women is a huge sign at the very beginning.
I don't know about you but Chuck Bass is for sure someone I would want nothing to do with. He was basically with a different girl every night. He had no respect for women at all. Whenever Blair lost her virginity to him, he told her: "You held a certain fascination... when you were beautiful, delicate, and untouched. Now... now you're like the Arabian my father used to own. Rode hard and put away wet. I don't want you anymore, and I can't see why anyone else would." I think that should be a huge sign that maybe Blair should not be with a disrespectful jerk. He basically treated women as property, especially when he exchanges Blair for sex with his uncle so he can get his hotel back.
2. Chuck tries to rape Serena and Jenny in the first season.
During the very first episode, he tries to rape Jenny Humphrey, the new freshman, but thankfully she gets away from the horrible person he is. Next, he also tries to rape Serena, who I might add is a bit drunk.
3. They both manipulate each other and make each other miserable.
Neither one of them will admit their love for each other. They are waiting for the other person to do it. When Blair finally tells Chuck she loves him, he just says that's too bad. He later tries to win her love with expensive gifts, but I'll get to that later.
4. "I'm Chuck Bass" is not a good excuse for anything that he does.
Chuck loves to use the excuse, "I'm Chuck Bass." Like that is an excuse for anything. Smh. First of all, everyone knows you're Chuck Bass. Secondly, that is not an excuse. Okay you're rich and your dad is rich, but that doesn't give you the excuse to treat people like they are the dirt on the ground you walk on.
5. They had no stability in their relationship.
They were always there for each other when they felt like scheming but when it came to their relationship, they were hardly ever there for each other. Even when they were together, they would always be fighting over something. Chuck turned to his drinking habits and Blair turned to basically any other person other than Chuck. But honestly, why would you turn to Chuck? Why would you even talk to Chuck at that point? Yes she is in love, but no one deserves to be treated that way. Plus, there are other BASS in the sea.
6. They thought that their grand gestures would make up for anything that happened.
Every time they did something bad, they would try to buy their way through it or manipulate their way through it. Chuck would always buy Blair peonies or macaroons or jewelry and Blair would always show up to Chuck's house in lingerie and I think you see where that is going. That is not a good relationship to have. Money does not buy happiness and it definitely does not make every bad thing you've done, right. Maybe they should try just not doing the horrible things they have to apologize for later.
7. They always had an excuse for why they should not be together.
They always had something in the way or it was not a good time. Whatever it was, there was always a reason why they "couldn't be together." (On top of all of the reasons why they just shouldn't.)
8. Chuck had some abusive behavior.
When Blair tells Chuck that she has plans to marry someone else, he grabs her, pushes her into the wall, and punches the glass wall behind her which leads to the glass cutting her face. He is also screaming at her the whole time. He did have too much to drink, but that is still no excuse for any type of abusive behavior.
9. Chuck cheated on Blair.
After another one of the many types Chuck messed up, he tried to make another grand gesture to win Blair over. He showed up to the Empire State Building with her favorite flowers hoping that Blair would forgive him once again. He waits for a VERY short amount of time and goes to find Jenny Humphrey. He then blamed Blair for what HE did.
10. Blair is always plotting something.
I know I have been talking about Chuck a lot, but Blair is no saint. She is always scheming or coming up with a plan for revenge, no matter what someone does to her. So you can imagine that Chuck sees a little bit of that side of her.
So basically, find a relationship that is good for you. Find someone who is not too stubborn to say I love you. Find someone who treats you (and all women) with respect. All I can say is that I am glad that this is just a TV show. However, I also know that there are actually some relationships like this. If you are in one like this, I hope that you get out of this toxic relationship and find a relationship that is good for you. No one deserves to be treated that way. And just remember, there ARE other Bass in the sea. You know you love me, XOXO.
