10 Reasons Why Being a BCU Choir Kid Is The Best

1. You are never the only one singing in the car

You aren't the only one singing in the car anymore. When you go on drives with your choir friends it's time to crack out the Les Miserable soundtrack and dramatically sing along to "I Dreamed a Dream." You'll all hit those notes so perfectly that you'll all wonder why you weren't in the original casting soundtrack. But then you'll get to that one song that none of us can seem to remember all the lyrics to that you realize why you all weren't on the original casting soundtrack.

2. When sitting around in the commons area, 4/5 times someone will start a song and everyone joins in

There is always way too much time in between your last class and choir. So a group of you will always end up at the closest couches to the choir room door in the atrium and lounge around until one of you, and someone always does, starts the first few verses of either "One Day More" or "Seasons of Love." You'll sing through the whole song and won't care about what the scared passerby students think of you guys because you're basically giving them a free show. They should be happy about it. Live shows this good aren't cheap by any means.

3. Choir tour is the one of the best traveling opportunities you get. Plus it's always super fun!

Everyone in the choir is always super excited to get away for a while. Every night out is a night full of fun with your pals. It's like a fun sleepover that lasts for days, because everyone hangs out in the same room and we all get to know each other far more than any of us would (probably) like to. Choir tour is a time for super deep and intense conversations, singing on the bus to every destination (Remember when I mentioned One Day More and Seasons of Love? That happens on the bus too. a few times, actually), and exploring each city that we visit. You'll get into so many shenanigans that you might have to run.

4. You will always have someone to go see a musical with, and they won't pretend to enjoy it because they love musicals too!

Remember in high school when your friends thought that musicals were a pain to watch, or when your boyfriend said that he would prefer not to go see Hairspray with you at the local Theatre? Well those days are gone because most of your choir friends would die of happiness if you asked them to go see Hairspray.

5. Someone you know has the hook up for the local Theatre.

There's always that one kid who knows whats going on behind the scenes. Ours so happens to be a bass who fixed the wigs up for Jersey Boys. You're secretly jealous of him but who could ever be stay mad at a guy who also tries to mess your singing up by making funny faces at you. (Choir is a plethora of funny faces.)

6. Your accompanist is the funniest character you know

The dry jokes you hear in between songs is what you live for, and on bad days they're the light that the end of the tunnel. There is always at least one during practice that keeps you going.

7. Your best friend will always make faces at you from across the room to try to mess you up

You know who you are, but you bet your sweet soprano butt that I'll always be making funny faces back.

8. Your Director is a blast when he isn't cranky

We all have our days, and being a choir Director could have more than a few, especially when most of us are always getting into shenanigans. Even though he has his bad days (Seriously, who doesn't!?) you know that you always have each other's back.

9. Your Director's wife is literally the coolest person you know.

I didn't add this because i know that you're going to read this (ahem, Shannon) but it's because this is usually always true. At least it has been for me. You know that she's the best vocal teacher/therapist/friend you could have ever hoped for.

10. Everyone in the choir is basically family.

You have all spent way too much time together (Which isn't a bad thing. It's pretty great, actually) and it makes you closer. You realize that although there are a ton of different kinds of people in your choir, from artists to scientists, you are all here because you all share the same love for music.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
