10 Reasons Why I Back The Blue

"Police Officers are our real life heroes."

10 Reasons Why I Back The Blue
Sanja Karac

Here are all the reasons why I stand with the Police Force.

1. They're always there.

There is always someone on duty 24/7/365. No matter how big or small the issue is, you will always have someone to help you in every way possible. They don’t get the luxury of working a Monday through Friday 9-5pm job with no holidays.

2. While everyone else is running away from danger, they’re running towards it.

The most dangerous situations are placed in their hands, and they always go in without looking back. Once they’re on a call, they don’t have the option to back out or turn around, they’re all invested. They will be the first ones to respond and the last ones to leave.

3. Officers and EMTs are our real life heroes.

From animals to humans, they have saved countless lives. Moms, dads, brothers, sisters, etc...they’ve saved them.

4. They give their all.

It is one of the most physically and mentally exhausting jobs out there. Police officers are the strong ones through all the blood, sweat, and tears that it takes to help somebody. Sometimes, even having to break to you that your loved one won’t make it takes a toll on someone...

5. Everyone says negative things about cops, but when it’s your family member in need, who will you call?

Despite everything going on in the world, positive or negative, they always come back to do their job. No matter how they feel about the person or who they have to help that day, officers come back every day to do a job they love.

6. They don’t do this job because they hate who is in front of them, they do it because of who is behind them.

Every police officer risks their life for people who they don’t even know for some people who don’t even care whether they go home to their family that night. Officers fight to make neighborhoods safer for all.

7. Decisions, decisions.

The number of decisions a police officer has to make is bad enough, but the magnitude of those decisions is on a whole other level. They have to think and deal with situations that others can only dream of and some you don’t want to think of. They literally hold others lives in their hands and have to deal with it to the best of their ability.

8. They give us a sense of security.

Sometimes, yes, you get afraid when an officer pulls up behind you. But they’re really only making sure everyone is safe. Seeing them out in public in places that may not seem so safe can help assure you that everything will be okay.

9. The bond between cops and other cops/spouses is unbreakable.

It truly is; “in this family, no one fights alone.” These families look out for one another and know what it’s like to be in their shoes.

10. Every night someone sends their loved one out to work not knowing if he or she will return safely in the morning just so others can sleep safely.

“And on the 8th day, God looked down on His planned paradise and said ‘I need a protector’. So God made a police officer."

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
