By this point, everyone has heard of the "The Bachelor" or it's spin-off sister series "The Bachelorette," and has probably even begrudgingly watched an episode or two. Or maybe that episode turned into a guilty marathon of catching up on who Kaitlyn Bristowe chose for her husband-to-be, or worse, you went all the way back to the beginning.
My own personal addiction started last season with Ben Higgins. I'd been a casual observer until then, reading the occasional Facebook article about who won, keeping informed just enough to know what the heck someone was talking about if they ever brought it up to me. But until then, it was something I didn't really care about, let alone watched every single week. Then my roommates started casually watching it and I knew my sorority sisters were, too, so I thought, "Why not?" and thus, I got hooked on the crazy drama that was Olivia vs. everyone else, as well as slightly barfing in my mouth whenever Ben uttered a cliche, canned line to one of the girls. I knew he was going to end up with Lauren B. after their first date together (he was obviously already in love, also, who takes a stewardess on a first date in an airplane?) but I still pulled for Caila, my favorite.
When JoJo was ultimately sent packing, 'devastated' about not getting her final rose, it was pretty much a given that she would be the next Bachelorette, as she was somehow everyone's favorite contestant. So now she's looking for love and we get to watch all the crazy, dramatic, and corny scenes unfold. Here are 10 reasons you should be watching this season of "The Bachelorette."
1. Chad
Chad is totally crazy and all of the guys in the house hate him. He's basically this season's Olivia but with a more violent streak. Despite all of that, he managed to charm JoJo even though during the fake proposal group date, he said she was "nagging" him already. Not a good start, bro. He's cute and super in shape, but the asshole attitude is pretty hard to get over. Maybe he's playing it up for the cameras, maybe he's looking for fame post-show, or maybe he really is just crazy. Either way, he's one of the best reasons to catch up if you've been doubting to watch so far.
2. Jojo's obsession with how good looking everyone is
Seriously, every other sentence out of her mouth seems to be, "Wow, he's so hot!" Granted, she's right and up to this point she's only known the guys for a couple of weeks...But still, we get it, they wouldn't be on the show if they weren't good looking (that's a whole other issue itself).
3. Also Jojo's obsession with breakups
With every contestant that JoJo has either taken on a one-on-one or had a deeper chat with, she seems incredibly curious about her future bae's last breakup. Now, I get where she's coming from here, but you can tell most of the dudes are either pretty uncomfortable with the topic or beef it up to get her all teary-eyed. Props to her for asking the uncomfortable question anyways.
4. The destinations
While the locations have primarily consisted of only the Bachelor mansion and Pennsylvania, it's almost guaranteed that the remaining cast will soon head to either somewhere tropical or a magical destination in Europe. The views and the adventures they go on are always beautiful.
5. Jordan
Jordan Rodgers, most famously known as Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers's little brother, is a front runner on the show. JoJo is super interested in him, and the chemistry is definitely there, but both her and fans think something shady is going on there. He's another major reason to tune in (plus, many fans are already speculating that he will be the next Bachelor).
6. Jojo's outfits
Man, the girl knows how to dress. Everything she wears is literally #goals.
7. The distraction effect
Basically, the show is kind of trashy but pretends it's something it's not. 25 guys going on a show to vie for the affection, and probable marriage to, one girl who just had her heart broken doing the same thing less than six months ago? They really barely get to know one another and spend the majority of the time with other competitors rather than each other (*cough* JJ and Clint last season). However, despite the ridiculous concept, it's a great distraction from your own life problems for an hour and a half.
8. Attractiveness
Like I mentioned before, you don't usually have a chance on either of shows unless you're attractive. While this is a pretty problematic concept, that's reality television for you. On the bright side, all the contestants are nice to look at/envy.
9. The drama
Oh, the drama never ends on these shows. While I'm sure the producers amp up whatever is actually going on behind the scenes, (see: their manipulation of Caila last season when she was in the top 3 and then promptly got sent home) the drama makes the show so much more worth watching. Also, there's always one contestant who everyone hates (i.e Chad) and makes the headlines every time, as well the one who's different than the rest but is held onto for ratings. In this case, it just happens to be a tie between Evan and Daniel.
10. The happy ending
While all of the contestants are sent packing but one, the couple that makes it through the final rose ceremony represents that happy ending that we all want. It's usually in a beautiful location, includes tears, and has the potential to make you explode with pride that your favorite person won. And hopefully, if all goes well, the two will actually get married and start a life and family together. Not a terrible ending at all. Hopefully JoJo finds the best man for her this season.
