In the light of college decision day approaching, I decided to point out all the amazing things about the best school on Earth. Virginia Tech has an atmosphere that is not only positive, but inspiring. Here, students do not strive to be mediocre, but the best they can be. Coming to Virginia Tech, I had no idea how much one could possible love their school. Here are my 10 favorite things about campus.

1. Football

Who doesn't love football? Certainly not anyone in the Hokie Nation. Game day looks like Orange and Maroon threw up all over Blacksburg. Tailgating reins and students pack into Lane Stadium like sardines. Game day is the only time it is acceptable to smell like sweat and puke and stand 2 centimeters away from the person next to you. Start Jumping Hokies!

2. Food

No surprise there. Virginia Tech is home to amazing food! My personal favorites? Quesadillas from West End and the Chicken, Bacon, and Ranch from Owens. Whatever mood you are in there is something for every craving.

3. McComas Hall

Like to gym? Well, McComas is the place to be. You can run the track, lift, or do some excellent cardio with the amazing machines. Feeling Vigorous? Take a class! For a low fee you can join classes with other people and have fun while getting fit or have another excuse to eat more food!

4. Dorm Life

Okay, so dorm life here is just a freshman thing, but I am so happy I got this experience. Yes, it is gross. You will be living in a shoe box with a lofted bed, but at the end of the day, I would not change a thing. Some of my favorite nights have been sitting in the lounge or someones room until three in the morning with my 12 best friends.

5. Greek Life

While not everyone is in greek life at Virginia Tech, it is such an amazing community. It is a positive experience, and gives one so many opportunities to become involved on campus.

6. Blacksburg, Va

Every Hokie is lucky to call this little mountain town home! Blacksburg is home to some amazing restaurants, and is a great location to hike. Most importantly, it is not a huge area so Uber is cheap!

7. The Faculty

Every professor has office hours, and in most of my classes there are even incentives to go. I have never felt like my professors did not care, or that they were out to get me. The Faculty and Staff at Virginia Tech actually care.

8. The Weekends

No matter what type of person you are there are always fun things to do on the weekends.

9. Hokie Nation

When deciding where I wanted to go to school the people really stuck out to me. Being apart of Hokie Nation is being apart of a large community with a small feel. People hold doors and help others. People wear sweatpants to class, and I love that. The Hokie Nation is come as you are; there is a place for everyone here.

10. This is Home

30 years from now, I will come back to Tech for a game and look around at all the memories I created over four years. That will be home. This is home. Virginia Tech is an amazing place and I am so lucky to call myself a Hokie.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
