10 Reasons Everyone Should Travel
Travel and Leisure

Traveling may seem like a time-wasting, money- burning, inconvenience but the benefits to traveling will be worth it. Here are 10 reasons on why you should travel.

1. Fun

Okay, this one is a given. Going to different places such as the zoo, amusement parks, or going to the beach are places that can give you pure bliss.

2. Educational

This may not seem fun, but many of the places you travel to can provide you with history lessons. It is always beneficial to learn new things.

3. Getting New Perspectives

We wake up, in the same bed, same house, same neighborhood, go to work on the same route, to the same place and spend our day living in the same town. This will create a bubble around you and you will form opinions based on what you see everyday. Once you step out of this, you are able to view the world differently and give you a broader perspectives on situations and or people.

4. Escaping

Going on a vacation is one of the best ways to distance yourself from everything going on around you. It helps with letting you step back and for the next few days, there is a wall between you and your problems because vacations have no time for worrying about jobs, relationships, or just everyday issues.

5. Relaxing

Once you have escaped from your issues, you can finally relax. Stress can be harmful, so taking some time for yourself will assist you in good health. Once you have spent a few days relaxing, you can be able to get back to your everyday life rejuvenated and in good spirits.

6. Learning More About Yourself

The aftereffect of getting out of your repeating everyday life, is that you will be able to learn more about yourself. You may find yourself enjoying foods that you would have never thought you would have liked before. You may learn that you love the thrill of rides or that you love the silence on top of a mountain. It helps you understand who you are.

7. There Is Always An Option For You

Don't like horseback riding in the mountains? Well, travel to California and spend time on their beaches. Don't like that? Well, travel to Italy, or France, Spain, or somewhere else over seas. Not enough time or money? Well then travel a few hours away from home. A vacation does not have to be extravagant. It is what you make of it, there are well over a million different things in this world to do and you have the option to choose anything you'd like! Whether it breaks your bank, or costs a few dollars. There is no reason not to just go.

8. Nature Is Beautiful

I am from North Dakota, and If I had not traveled, I would only know the beauty of the sunset over the Great Plains. I have had my feet sink into cold sand on the beach, I have stood up top the Grand Canyon and I have seen how trees huddle close together. Going to different places gives you the chance to witness nature's beauty in all forms.

9. Food

For all my food lovers out there, this ones for you. Each place you go to has their own special food. Here in North Dakota, gumbo is not a thing and even if it was, I think those in New Orleans wouldn't even touch it with a ten foot pole. It is awesome to go out and try foods that are either non-existent from where you reside or a completely different way to make what you already know. Maybe you can even get the recipe and impress all your friends at home?

10. Appreciation

Beingaway from home, and or family can sometimes be a needed thing, but in the end, it helps you realize how much you do love it and them. This is called being homesick. Even though you had a grand ole' time sailing the ocean, at the end of the tiring but relaxing week, you are ready to come home. You'll hug your loved ones a little tighter and snuggle with your bed just a little longer.

So, please put on your hiking boots and go on an adventure!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
