Lilly Pulitzer. You know, the preppy brand with the brightly colored patterns? If you're like me, you're a fanatic. But you're also used to hearing that Lilly is not "style" or that it's "cheesy" or that it's "overrated." Well, I'm here to disagree and to say that you should wear Lilly Pulitzer if you love it. If you don't, that's fine, but don't bash others who do!
1. It reminds you of the beach.
2. The story of how the brand started is absolutely adorable.
From the Lilly website: "When 21-year-old Lilly eloped with Peter Pulitzer, they escaped the hustle and bustle of New York City for the sun and sand of Palm Beach. In the shadow of Peter's citrus groves, Lilly opened a juice stand. To disguise the juice stains on her clothing, she had a sleeveless dress made from colorfully printed cotton. "
3. The patterns are bright and fun...
Any day is instantly made better with a Lilly pattern. How can you help but smile when you're wearing it?
4. ...but also still classy.
5. The print names are adorable and even sometimes a little sassy.
This print is Lobstah (yes, spelled like that) Roll. Other popular patterns are Don't Give a Cluck, Get Nauti, Crazy Cat House, Let's Cha Cha, Ring the Bellboy, and Jellies Be Jammin.
6. Their shift dresses are super flattering.
I never thought I could wear straight dresses until I bought my first Lilly shift. Even now, I still love the fit of Lilly shifts more than any other kind of dress.
7. It's timeless.
"White label Lilly" is considered vintage, whereas newer pieces have pink labels. However, people still wear both all the time and they all look great! The styles are classic and work for all ages, too. I wore kids' Lilly when I was younger, wear it now, and know that I'll continue to wear it.
8. The word "Lilly" is hidden in every authentic Lilly pattern.
Every Lilly piece is like a little scavenger hunt, which also helps you tell if something is made with authentic Lilly fabric.
9. It's unique.
Not only are the patterns super fun and different compared to other clothing brands, but the pattern placement on each piece is unique depending on the cut of the fabric. So, your Get Nauti Cathy shift may look totally different than your friend's, even though they're the same pattern/style, because of where the pattern is placed on the dress.
10. It's a community.
There are tons of Facebook groups dedicated to loving and styling Lilly items, connecting people from all over. Plus, Lilly lovers aren't afraid to go up to someone also rocking a Lilly piece and strike up a conversation!
