Fall is quickly approaching, and the anticipation can be sensed everywhere. The Pumpkin Spice Latte is back, boots and sweaters are starting to pile up in department stores, and is it just me or are the squirrels becoming a bit more, well, squirrely about their food? Personally, I think fall is best experienced on a college campus, and living in Louisville makes it even better.
Here are 10 reasons why fall is best on a college campus.
1. Homecoming.
Everyone knows that with the ushering in of fall comes the year's biggest celebration of school spirit! Alumni from all over the country come back to campus to visit their alma mater and watch the new homecoming king and queen be crowned during halftime at the football game. The parades, the awards, the tailgates -- you name it; we're all rooting for our favorite team!
2. Cooler weather.
I can't tell you what a relief it is to finally be able to walk across campus and not have puddles of sweat dripping down my back and pit stains under my arms. It's so nice to walk leisurely from class to class and not worry about if I'm going to get sunburned in the 10 minutes it takes for me to get there.
3. Football Season.
The official sport of the season has returned, and NCAA and NFL fans alike are rejoicing! Whether you're painted up in the student section at the stadium or curled up in front of the big screen TV in your team's snuggie, everyone can enjoy the game even if we can't play it, like our dear friend Charlie Brown.
4. Comfy Clothes.
We can all agree that everyone looks and feels great in a sweater. I mean, what's not to love about them? They're cute, comfy, and it's like getting a warm hug all day. It's a win-win-win situation.
5. Pumpkin. Everything.
Pumpkin scones. Pumpkin soup. Pumpkin pie. Pumpkin spice lattes. You name it, it's been pumpkin-fied. Basically fall is a big blur of pumpkin until after Thanksgiving. You can't escape the pumpkin. Carve them, decorate them, eat them, roast their seeds. Pumpkin is the king crop this season for a reason: it's delicious.
6. Halloween.
Alright, we all know that the best parties are holiday parties because you don't have to plan out a specific theme. When you say "Halloween party," everyone invited knows to dress up in a costume and expect lots of candy corn and -- you guessed it -- pumpkin flavored everything. And if Halloween happens to fall on a weekday, it's really fun to see the people that wear their costumes to class. Talk about dedication!
7. Hot drinks.
Coffee, hot chocolate, tea, all the hot drinks taste and feel better in fall. It's hard not to smile when your campus barista hands you your hot beverage on a chilly day and it warms your hands on your way to class.
9. Fall activities.
It seems like there's an infinite amount of activities that occur in fall. There's hay rides, apple orchards, corn mazes, haunted houses, beer festivals --basically everything that is sacred and holy to fall. You could do something new every weekend and not get bored!
10. Thanksgiving.
Alas, the last celebration in fall before everything turns bitterly cold is Thanksgiving. While it's nice to get away from campus to see family, you really begin to appreciate the friends you've chosen to be your "campus family." Be sure to share some food with the ones you love and celebrate the last few days of fall!
Whether or not it's your first or last fall season on campus, you're bound to have a fun time in the next few months. So grab your cardigans and PSL's. It's time for fall to begin!
