10 Reasons To Look Forward To November

It may not be everyone's favorite month of the year, but there's more to November than just Thanksgiving!

I know what you’re thinking: November has literally nothing to offer other than blistering cold weather and one day a year where you can eat twice your body weight and think nothing of it.

Of course, you may remember that Daylight Savings makes a reappearance and that November is when the temperature drops, but not quite enough for snowfall. You may think to yourself, Halloween is over, and I can’t start really listening to Christmas music for another month.

However, if you look back losing an hour of sleep and the blistering cold, it really is a month that deserves some recognition! So let’s take some time to think about everything we have to really appreciate in November:

1. Sweaters

Especially this year, October hasn't exactly been consistent in the weather department. However, now that November is rolling around, it's time to break out that cute oversized sweater that's been collecting dust for 8 months.

2. Leaves...everywhere

You may be thinking to yourself, but October is the month where the leaves are actually changing colors and look aesthetically pleasing on the trees, why do I want to see them fall off? However, the best part of leaves changing is when they fall and make piles! That's where the real fun is, don't try and deny it.

3. Cute winter boots

Another great perk of Thanksgiving is the official acceptability of winter boots... you may not have to break out the Sorels yet, but some cute LL Bean boots or your Timbs are perfectly acceptable, even some knee-high boots! The sky's the limit.

4. Thanksgiving

This one honestly goes without being said. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, pie... I'm hungry just thinking about it. Who doesn't love the one day a year where your whole family can get together and just pig out?

5. More importantly, the Thanksgiving Day Parade

Honestly, this might just be me, but for some reason, I live for waking up promptly at 9 a.m. that brisk Thursday morning to watch oversized balloons and child-friendly performances parade down the streets of New York City.

6. Even more importantly, Thanksgiving break

A whole week off of school! What more could a student ask for?

7. Starbucks Red Cups

Wow, there's nothing more seasonal than the new Starbucks customized cup design. Perfect for holding your Pumpkin Spice Latte on a cold November day, the basic girl in me would say.

8. Black Friday

The one shopping day a year in which the retail outlets across America become absolute madhouses as you scramble to take advantage of the absurd deals offered for shoppers. If anything is over 50 percent off, I'm there.

9. No-shave November

Okay, this one could honestly go either way. Not a huge fan of the guys taking this to the extreme, but an excuse to not shave your legs for a little while? I won't complain, honestly... shorts weather is over anyways.

10. And eventually… Christmas

Once again, Thanksgiving is really just the pregame for Christmas. The end of November means the Michael Buble Christmas album on repeat!

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
