1. They’re forced to spend time with you.
With the stress of mid-semester kicking in it can get hard to find time to go out of your way to hang out with people. Even if you want nothing more than to spend infinite amounts of time with your friends, our busy schedules simply don’t allow for it. When you live with your best friends, you get to see their faces every time you come home. Whether it’s in the morning before classes, coming home for lunch breaks, late-night powwows, or hanging out on the couch on a gloomy Sunday watching the rain, you’re guaranteed to see them every single day.
2. You get to decorate together
Whether this means you take over Ikea or raiding frat houses for good finds, you get to share the experience of making your house a home. And since they’re you’re best friends it usually isn’t difficult to agree on a common theme.
3. Your bed is their bed.
You know your best friend has that fluffy blanket named Peter that you love and you know you’re always welcome to nap in her bed if yours isn’t doing the trick that day. This also means cuddle sessions when one of you is sad and needs some snuggles or when you’re all too lazy to get up and go anywhere.
4. They’re the first people you ask to hang out.
Whether you need to go to the grocery store or want to go to the gym you’ll always ask your roommates first. I mean they’re right in front of you so why not. And this means more time spent with your favorite people and who doesn’t want that.
5. You know a shoulder to cry on is just a few footsteps away.
You can come home from the worst day and know that endless hugs, loves, and cuddles await you. They’ll love you and support you no matter how petty your problems may seem and you know you’ll do the same for them. Also, they’ll probably surprise you with food when you’re sad because isn’t that what all good friends do?
6. Spontaneous adventures and dance parties are the norm.
If someone turns their speaker on, it’s customary for everyone to start breaking it down in the middle of the kitchen (with strobe lights on, of course). And whenever you get an idea for some crazy shenanigans, you know they’re always ready for an adventure and will join you in your craziness.
7. You never have to worry about coming home alone.
Going out to a party is never something to stress over because you know you’ll all find each other by the end of the night and you never have to go home alone. You also know that they’ll be the people to get late-night tacos with you and stay up talking about how your night went until ungodly hours of the night while sacrificing their sleep.
8. You don’t feel obligated to wear clothes around the house.
Pants are optional and bras are always a no-go. Free yo’self. Do you think they care?
9. Your closet doubles in size.
You almost never have to repeat outfits because you have multiple people who are willing to let you literally walk in their shoes, or romper, or jeans, or anything. So your outfits are bound to be bomb all the time.
10. And your home doubles in love.
Ultimately you know that you’re living life surrounded by people who genuinely love and care about you. A dance party, cry sesh, or cuddles are no more than 10 steps away. And with college being a time where you step away from your family at home, you’re able to create your new little family of your own.
