1. You find a community that creates connections all over campus.
Once you're a part of a Greek Society you immediately form relationships with professors, staff and other organizations on campus. This creates potential job opportunities, additional academic support, and another way to become acclimated to campus.
2. First, you're a part of it, then it becomes a part of you.
In the beginning joining a Greek Society seems like just adding another organization to the list of your involvement. However, after spending time with fellow members and getting to know what your society stands for you realize that it's more a part of you than you ever expected it to be. You fight for what your society believes in and you love it with all of your heart.
3. You always have a family on a campus to turn to.
No matter what you need whether it's someone to eat in the dining hall with or someone to help you through homesickness, there is always a sister or brother who will go to the ends of the earth and back for you.
4. You make a difference.
Most, if not all, societies are involved with the local community and volunteer organizations. The work that you do with your sisters and brothers truly have an effect on people in need and that's amazing in itself.
5. #GREEKUNITY Becoming a part of a society allows you to make friendships with awesome people also involved in Greek Life!
The Greek population at your school is most likely a large chunk of the students who attend your university. So not only will you find a family but you will also make lasting friendships with people in other Greek societies.
6. The crafting and merchandise that comes with joining a Greek group is so much fun.
There's no other feeling than the one you get while wearing your letters. The t-shirts, sweatshirts, cardigans and more are just a few of the ways to show how proud you are to be a part of something bigger than yourself. Typically crafts such as paddles and canvases are exchanges amongst bigs and littles. The opportunity to express your excitement and love for another member of your group is a blast!
7. The friendships and memories you make within your society last a lifetime.
I found some of my best friends within my Greek group. My roommate and I have been best friends for over two years and we would not have met if it weren't for my involvement in Greek Life. The memories I have made in these short two years are ones that I will carry in my heart forever!
8. Greek Life offers many leadership opportunities.
Running for positions within your group is always a good idea! Not only is it a great thing to add to your resume, but holding a leadership position offers a variety of professional and social experiences.
9. Gives you opportunities to attend fun events like formals, retreats and even events with other groups!
Sometimes finding the chance to dress up while in college is difficult. You probably own nice dresses or ties that you fear will gather dust in your closet. However, if you join Greek Life sororities and fraternities host formals. These events are similar to homecoming dances in high school and are so much fun! Also, typically a society well have a retreat where all the members get together to bond and grow as a group. This is just another perk of participating in Greek Life!
10. Gives you a chance to prove the stereotypes about Greek Life wrong.
A large portion of society, or even you, may have negative thoughts towards Greek Life. I'm here to tell you that these stereotypes are faulty. Do not let the misconceptions portrayed in movies and social media keep you from finding a home in the Greek community. Take the chance to find family and prove that the negative things said about being in a sorority and fraternity are inaccurate.
