Alpha Phi Omega is a national co-ed fraternity founded by the Boy Scouts of America and based on a set of three cardinal principles: Leadership, Friendship, and Service. Let's be honest, when you hear the word fraternity, you think of a big frat house with huge parties and stuck up drunk guys. But, this is far from what APO at Longwood University is. As brothers of APO, we believe we have a greater cause: service. We want you to join us in this life-long brotherhood.

Here are some reasons why YOU should join Alpha Phi Omega:

1. It is open to everyone!

I promise you that we are a diverse group of people and we have no exclusive factors. We welcome people with different majors, beliefs, etc.

2. You get to serve alongside some of the best people EVER.

Since APO is based on service, our chapter offers a variety of different service projects you can participate in. It is even recommended that you bring your ideas for a service project to chapter! Not only do you get to do service and brighten someone's day, you get to stand alongside your best friends.

3. Leadership Opportunities.

There are so many opportunities to acquire leadership skills! You could be a member of the executive board, a committee head, or even a project chair, all of which will help expand your skills in leadership.

4. Networking!

There Alpha Pi Omega brothers all around the world. This brotherhood provides opportunities for you to meet other brothers at other universities; it also provides opportunities for jobs and future plans!

5. We won't break your bank.

APO's dues are drastically cheaper than any social sorority or fraternity!

6. NO HAZING.

I solemnly swear APO does not haze in any way, shape, or form.

7. Endless Opportunities.

APO offers a variety of opportunities that adhere to all people! There is always something for everyone.

8. Serve a better purpose.

The purpose of APO is to develop Leadership, to promote Friendship, and to provide Service to humanity. We work together to make a difference and become better people.

9. You have a voice.

With APO, every brother has a voice and every voice is considered and heard. You are not just a shadow, you are valued.

10. Projects for everyone.

From nursing homes, watching kids, cleaning up state parks, working at food pantries, helping out at races, going to the SPCA, working at Rickis Refuge, volunteering at Camp Easter Seals and A Night To Shine, and so much more; you are bound to have an interest in a variety of these projects. You can also create your own project in regards to something you are passionate about!

Here are a few reasons some of our brothers joined APO:

"I joined/love APO because it makes my day better knowing I have a group of people who will always support me. Also, the leadership experience is amazing and they friendships are out of this world. I just love APO so much"
- Tyler Kelly
"I’ve always been really shy and service was something that always made me happy. I thought that Alpha Phi Omega would be an amazing opportunity to do what I love and make friends with a common interest! And since joining, I have become so much more extroverted and social because it’s such a comfortable atmosphere."
-Amanda Meszaros
"APO pushes you out of your comfort zone in the best way possible!"
- Amanda Topping
"I met over half of my bridesmaids through APO!"
- Casey Favor

"I joined APO because I love being able to help and meet people from Farmville and the surrounding areas! APO has made me feel confident in my ability to lead others."
- Sarah Kasko

"I personally joined because I knew I wanted to join greek life, but I never saw myself as someone who would join a sorority. I knew I wanted to do more, and that's where I found APO because I am able to do service, which is something I've always been passionate about, along with making friends that I may never have met because our paths just wouldn’t have crossed."
- Samantha Thedieck

Come join the brothers of Longwood Alpha Phi Omega at our two last open houses of the semester: Nov 14 at 7pm and Nov 27 at 6pm in the chapter room of Wheeler!

We hope to see you soon! Come make the best decision for your college career!

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
