10 Reasons To Have A Summer Job

Every summer we come home from school or go off on internships and gain experience away from a classroom that is irreplaceable and will help us to gain the experience to join the real world after college graduation. So here are 10 reasons to work in the summer.

1. You Socialize

Introverted? Don't worry, you can count this as your daily dose of dealing with people before you go home and become a hermit.

2. You Can Make Money

You want to be like Beyonce? Everyone has to start somewhere, usually at the bottom to work to the top.

3. You Make Future Connections

Having those connections can help you to find other positions and jobs in the future, so don't burn those bridges.

4. You Have Something To Do

Anytime you need an excuse to get out of something? Just say you have to work.

5. You Get Away From Your Parents

If you're used to being on your own at school, now you have a reason to be on your own at home (again you can use work as an excuse too).

6. You Have Freedom

Hand-in-hand with getting away from the folks you have a little freedom to be doing something you want to get out and control an aspect of your life.

7. You Add To Your Resume

Lacking in expertise? You can word anything to your benefit, no matter what you did, to impress a potential employer.

8. You Gain Experience

If this is a field you want to work in after school, having the ability to say you have don this before will go a long way in getting potential face-to-face interaction for the job.

9. You Get To Make Your Own Choices

Accept the job you want and apply for the job you want. If you feel like mowing lawns, or working in an office, you do you.

10. You Get To Peace Out Back To School In The Fall

Not ready for the real world yet? You don't have to be, because you can go back to school with all your friends in August and be as crazy as you want before graduation.

In the end having a job in the summer to occupy yourself is all around an extraordinary experience to help you, and your future self will thank you for it.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
