10 Reasons To Be Excited About Christmas

Now that Halloween is over, the countdown to Christmas has begun. While the Grinches out there may say that it’s way too early to be thinking about Christmas when it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, I say it’s never too early for a little holiday spirit. After all, this is the most wonderful time of the year. What’s not to be excited about?

1. No more schoolwork

With Christmas comes a much-needed break from homework, exams, quizzes, projects and all the stress that goes along with college classes. That means you can dedicate 100 percent of your time to sleeping, eating and basking in a sea of Christmas joy.

2. Christmas cookies

Sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies, snickerdoodles, thumbprint cookies, peanut butter blossoms—need I say more? If I had it my way, my diet would consist of nothing but Christmas cookies for the entire month of December. But, as it turns out, I’ve been told that may not be the healthiest lifestyle choice. Oh, well.

3. Christmas lights

One of my favorite parts of the Christmas season is seeing the streets all lit up with twinkling Christmas lights, and it’s even better when everything is covered in snow.

4. Putting up the Christmas decorations

It’s amazing how some garland, a couple wreaths and a Christmas tree can transform your boring living room into a scene straight out of “Martha Stewart Living.”

5. Christmas music

Fact: Michael Bublé’s Christmas album is actual perfection. I would highly recommend it.

6. Holiday food

I’ve been waiting all year to devour some of my grandma’s cheesy potato casserole at Christmas dinner. I am so ready.

7. Ugly Christmas sweaters

The uglier, the better. Bonus points if it lights up or jingles when you walk.

8. Classic Christmas movies

It doesn’t get much better than curling up in front of the fireplace with a fuzzy blanket and a cup of hot chocolate to watch the holiday classics marathon on ABC Family.

9. Time with family

The holidays are a time for family, and while it may get a bit chaotic having the whole family back under one roof, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

10. And of course—PRESENTS

I mean, that’s the whole reason why we’re here, right? Just kidding. Getting presents is pretty great, but sometimes giving them is even better.

So the next time some Scrooge tries to tell you it's too early to talk about Christmas, just crank up "All I Want for Christmas Is You" a little louder, and pay them no mind. Because your Christmas excitement is perfectly validated, even if it is a bit premature.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
