The first time I ever saw this movie, I was 5 years old. I was so enamored by the luxury and beauty of the era and the grand ship herself, that I was obsessed with it for years. I began to read the history on all things Titanic because James Cameron allowed me to feel so many emotions throughout the film. I also had the biggest crush known to man on baby-faced Leo DiCaprio. No matter how many times I watch this movie, I bawl my eyes out like a baby. Here's why.
1. Rose's opulent life
From the "Heart of the Ocean" and Picasso's work draped across her walls, to her life of Philadelphia's high society and her formal gowns— Rose appeared to live a life that seemed so glamorous. Apart from the fact that Cal and her mother made her feel trapped, she really did.
2. So many emotions
I need at least a full box of tissues to get through this 4-hour saga. When she gives the crew member her name as "Rose Dawson," I lose it. When she promises that she'll never let go— here comes the waterfall of tears. BRB CRYING.
3. The attractiveness of Jack Dawson
1997 Leonardo DiCaprio deserves to be preserved in a museum of all that is good and holy. In the name of Jack Dawson, Amen. That is all.
4. Historical accuracy
Experiencing the same emotions that those passengers were feeling on that terrifying night really puts things in perspective. And seeing famous parts of the ship like the Grand Staircase and the steam room is so cool compared to fuzzy black and white images.
5. The love story
"You jump I jump, right?" This movie raised my relationship goals and standards to an unhealthy level. *Sigh* I want to drink beer and Irish dance with my lover one day.
6. Sassiness and attitude of the characters
Two words: Molly Brown. Her strong personality, especially in 1912, was always a refreshing sight to see. And how Cal always made you want to tell him off for being so rude. Ugh.
7. The scandal of it all
That steamy scene in the car and when Rose wants Jack to draw her in the nude always made us feel awkwardly uncomfortable (especially if our parents were in the same room)!
8. The "I'm flying, Jack!" scene
When they finally kissed, it felt as if all was good in the world. The beauty of the open sea and the intimacy between the characters creates such an iconic and unforgettable moment.
9. The actors themselves
The cast contained SO MANY good actors and actresses, that this movie was destined to be a hit. Kate Winslet, Kathy Bates, and Bill Paxton— all in one movie? Yes, please! The quality of acting was so on-point that it was impossible to not fall in love and feel a connection with the characters.
10. When Rose reunites with Jack at the end
After Rose passes and sees everyone she knew and loved by the Grand Staircase (especially her love of her life waiting at the top), I lose all sense of self-control as my heart strings can't take any more from their relationship goals.
