10 Reasons Why A Skinny Girl Doesn't Love Being Skinny

People call me thin and fit, but I really can’t see it.

Whenever I feel like I don't look right in a certain outfit because of my weight, everyone loves to tell me how skinny I am and how I fall under the category of thin.

And don’t get me wrong, I know I’m not fat. But at least 60 percent of the time, I'm not a fan of this "skinny" body that I came in. Of course, there are days when I feel great and confident in my body, yet I still don't LOVE being skinny for various reasons:

1. It's Easy To Tell When You’ve Gained Weight

You can always see the little bump that your stomach is starting to make over your waist, or even when your love handles start to get thicker. It’s honestly awful because every little addition to your body goes unnoticed.

2. So It’s Easy To Feel Bad When You Ate More Than You Should

Even though you may be skinny, you still overeat when we're anxious just like most people. But since everyone tells you how lovely your figure is, you don’t want to ruin that by indulging in a food that you'll regret and which will show on your body later.

3. As Well As When You’re Told You Don’t Eat Enough

"Is that really all you’re having? That's nothing," is what they all say. Most of the time you tend to get full very easily, which is why food orders with big portions intimidate you. Who wants to waste money on stuff they won’t finish? But still, everyone tells you how you should be eating more at the dinner table, or how little you eat is unhealthy when in actuality, you physically cannot eat more than you already have.

4. People Think You’re Dumb For Feeling Insecure About Your Body

You often worry that your thighs are too big and that your hips are too wide in that bikini pic you want to post on Instagram. But whenever you tell your friend this, they just roll their eyes. But in the end, you're a girl too and you're entitled to just as many body and self-insecurities as the rest.

5. You Feel Like You Don’t Have A Right To Feel Bloated

Feeling bloated doesn't really feel like an option to you. You know that your body doesn't actually look puffy, so you know you don’t have a right to complain. Therefore whenever you actually feel bloated, you feel like you can only complain about it to yourself.

6. You Feel Like You Have No Figure

Even though some of your friends may be jealous of you because you're thinner than they are, they have the better body. They’re the one’s with the better-looking butts, legs, arms, and hips, while you continue to just be there looking the way you are, thin and flat with no shape whatsoever.

7. Things Still Don’t Fit Right

Whether it be shoes, tops, or pants, clothes seem to never work on you. When you wear the same top as your friend, her boobs look bigger in it than yours. Or you need to go and get your pants hemmed because they are still too long on you. All in all, whatever curves you may actually have, it’s tough to find jeans or a shirt that actually make them show.

8. You Bra Size Never Changed in the 9th Grade Like Your Friends

In fact, you didn't even start wearing a bra until 9th grade. While you were finding the best bra and the best push-up throughout your first year of high school, your friends were making their way to a C/D cup when you finally made it and continue to stay at an A cup.

9. You Still Fit In The Kid’s Section

With no surprise, one of your college/university sweaters is from the kids' section. Even though that’s a blessing in disguise because of how cheap the price may be, it’s embarrassing that you still continue to buy Converse that are from this section too. Also, it kind of sucks because there aren’t as many styles that you like in the kids' section, but you tell yourself it’s fine.

10. Being Called Skinny Or Slim When You See Yourself As Average

You don’t really see your body as skinny or slim, but rather just ordinary. You don’t notice anything about your body that sticks out, and you don’t enjoy being called skinny or slim. Plus the concept of categorizing women by their physical size also pisses you off.

Just like any other girl, you're still in the process of accepting the body you currently have. And even though that body may follow under the "Skinny" and "Slim" category, you can be proud of it while also being hard on yourself for it, as long as there is some variation.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
