Stranger Things premiered on Netflix on July 15th and quickly found fame. The story takes place in the small town of Hawkings, Indiana during the 1980s and follows the disappearance of twelve year old, Will Byers. In order to save Will, the town will deal with government agencies and supernatural forces, all while discovering things may not be as they seem.
1. It's a mix of everything
Though the tv show is primarily known for it's mystery horror, and drama, there are a lot of humorous and lovable moments as well. I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me jump in my seat, but it had me laughing, crying, and cheering as well. There was never a dull moment.
2. It's a show for everyone
As well as a wide range of appealing genres, Stranger Things has characters almost everyone can relate to. Kids can relate to the main characters Will, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Eleven, all adventurous, Dungeons & Dragons playing kids who will stop at nothing to find their friend. From Barb, the nerdy best friend, to Steve, the stereotypical bully with an amazing and hilarious redemption ark, teens have the opportunity to connect with many loved and not so loved characters. As for the adults, Hopper and Joyce steal the show, delivering stories adults and parents can sympathize and empathize with.
3. The casting couldn't be more perfect
Stranger Things is one of those films you can't imagine the characters any other way. Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, and Caleb McLaughlin, who play Mike, Eleven, Dustin, and Lucas respectively, couldn't be better for their roles. Often times child actors don't give realistic performances, which is far from the case with this talented group. Gaten Matarazzo (on the far left) will even post your selfie on his Instagram if you stop to take one with him.
4. You'll fall in love with the characterization
Each Stranger Things character is written beautifully and realistically, there's never an unbelievable moment. While aliens and a twelve year old girl with telekinesis may seem a little unbelievable, these characters are part of what makes the show unique, believable, and worth your time.
5. If you know mornings are for coffee and contemplation
If you agree mornings are for coffee and contemplation, Jim Hopper, played by David Harbour, will certainly become one of your favorite characters.
6. Another 80's bicycle adventure you won't want to forget
While it may seem like a nostalgic story taking place in the 1980s wouldn't find success in our age, Stranger Things surpasses common expectations. This wildly original 80s bicycle adventure, is one you won't want to forget.
7. I understood that reference
From X-Men and Lord of the Rings to Dungeons & Dragons, this group of geeky twelve year old boys provide many pop cultural references that are sure to make you laugh.
8. The mystery and suspense will kill you
If Stranger Things is known for anything, it's for stunning mystery and suspense. Each episode will have you confused, guessing, and making up your own theories.
9. The theories
All you have to do is type in the name and you'll immediately find tons of fan theories. In my opinion, it's one of the best parts of the show. There's so much left untold, it's almost impossible to not come up with your own theories and lucky for us, many have, leaving you begging for answers.
10. It's only 8 episodes
This can be either good or bad, but with eight, fifty five minute episodes, it's a quick, suspenseful watch. Too many shows drag on longer than they should, which is something you won't have to worry about. And while the second season is yet to be confirmed, it would be a mistake not to expect one.
