10 Reasons We Can Relate To The Grinch More Than Any Other Christmas Character

As November becomes December and the holidays near, our televisions, malls, and everyday lives become consumed by the many friendly faces of Christmas time. There is Santa Claus, the jolly old man with rosy cheeks and a snow white beard who travels on a sleigh pulled by 9 reindeers. Then we have Frosty, the classic story of a snowman that comes to life and spreads Christmas cheer. Yet, not many of use can relate to having elves that help us out throughout the year, the struggle of getting a sleigh to fly all night, or having a magic hat get lost. However, we can all relate to one Christmas character who seems to be a bit more human, The Grinch. A character normally known for being Christmas’ Debbie Downer is in fact the character that knows exactly how some of us feel during the hectic holiday season.

1.) Getting invited to endless holiday parties

Your mom is throwing a party and so is your boss. Also, your neighbor and that one friend from high school. Not to mention your cousin's friend's uncle's dog you saw that one time, and even your dentist. With so many parties and such little motivation to attend, we are left making excuses as to why we can not make it that night or ever.

2.) When it comes to finding the perfect outfit for a holiday party

Each party normally has a particular holiday theme and the outfit choices are endless. Should one wear a Christmas sweater or a formal evening dress? Will it be inside or outside? Heels or flats? Is it cold enough, that I need to take a jacket? With questions like these it is easy to understand why finding the perfect outfit could be such a struggle.

3.) But when you do find the perfect outfit you can not wait to show it off

It only makes sense that after it has taken you hours to find the perfect look, you would want to share it with the world. In order to do so you walk around your room pretending to be a super model, start taking endless selfies and walk into the party like you own the place.

4.) When it is December 24th and you realize all your time off has been spent watching Netflix

Grey’s Anatomy. Scandal. Dancing with the Stars. Game of Thrones. We all understand how important a good binge watching session can be when its been weeks since the last time you sat down and watched your favorite shows. However, do not let Meredith Grey or Olivia Pope be your only friends this holiday season.

5.) Last minute trips to the mall

Since you have spent all your free time watching Netflix you now have to make a last minute run to your local mall to pick up gifts for all your relatives. What do you get that cousin that is impossible to please? Or that Uncle who you never know what to by for? Plus, malls this time of year are basically a maze filled with little children and a bunch of other “Grinches” all trying to figure it out too. Basically, they are complete chaos and should be avoided at all costs.

6.) Christmas music

To some, Christmas songs are the greatest 3 minutes of sound they hear all year. Yet, to most of us we get tired of the cheerful noise and high- pitched voices after a couple hours. That is why, when Christmas songs start playing after Thanksgiving and last until New Years, it makes only sense for some of us to lose our minds. Listening to the same song over and over again and then ones re-made by another artist, can get a little repetitive.

7.) When you realize it is too late to stop eating

Another difficult decision we are faced with during the holidays is whether to stop eating or to continue eating. With so many delicious meals around and constant left-overs sitting in your fridge, it is always difficult to identify if you are actually hungry or if your body is just in a state of shock. Beware of "Food Comas!"

8.) All the questions you get asked by relatives you have not seen all year.

Some of the questions and phrases to look out for. "Wow! You have gotten so big since I last saw you." "So, how is school ?" "Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend? *insert wink*" The questions are often times the same and can lead to very awkward conversations later on, if not answered correctly.

9.) Opening a gift you really like

There is no way to hide the overwhelming emotions one gets when un wrapping a box and finding a gift that you actually really like. It makes you feel warm and fuzzy because the person knew you so well, they knew exactly what to get you. Does that not make everyone feel special?

10.) Realizing Christmas is actually the greatest time of the year.

Besides all the little things that can get on one's nerves, at the end of the day, it is the best holiday of the year. Snow, hot chocolate, family, gifts, and smiles all around you. Truly, nothing can be better.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
