Ever since I was a year old, my family has vacationed at Rehoboth Beach, DE almost every summer. Rehoboth has become my second home and is very family oriented. Every time I vacation in Rehoboth, I fall in love with the town a little more.
1. Being able to walk everywhere
Rehoboth is a small town. Once you park your car at the hotel or house, you don’t have to drive anywhere unless you have to go to the grocery store or the outlets. There are multiple markets in town to pick up small food items, and other necessities.
2. Spending time with my extended family
About half of my mom’s side of the family comes to Rehoboth and we all rent a house together. Not all of my extended family is local, so being able to visit with my out of state family for a week is exciting and brings us closer together.
3. Waking up early and going for a run on the boardwalk
Most mornings, my cousins and I like to wake up early and go for a run on the boardwalk. Since one of my cousins enjoys running, she tends to take the rest of us on a run beyond the boardwalk that crosses into Dewey beach. It’s pretty cool that you can run 3 miles and reach another beach town.
4. Going to the boardwalk every night
Staying about three blocks from the boardwalk, allows for an easy walk to explore shops. After dinner, having a nice walk with the family is a great way to end the day full of sun and sand. Plus, it’s a nice way to get exercise while people watching.
5. The family owned stores along the boardwalk
One of the best things about the beach is that many of the stores are family owned and are specific to the beach. Very few stores are located in other towns, which makes them unique.
6. Thrashers French Fries
Tuna fish and thrashers sandwich…it sounds disgusting, but I swear by it, and can list 10 other people that do as well. Just try it, it is life changing.
7. Khor Brother’s Ice Cream
I always hear my friends rave about Dumsers in Ocean City. When I mention Khors, even though it is also located in Ocean City, most people have never been. Khors is the best especially on a warm hot summer day.. Soft serve ice cream in a cone, dipped in chocolate is the perfect end to a night on the boardwalk. They offer a variety of flavors including orange and vanilla, peanut butter and chocolate, mint and chocolate, and strawberry and banana.
8. Mini Golf on the Roof
Ryan’s Mini Golf on the boardwalk is located on the rooftop of a store. Mini golf is almost a rite of passage in Rehoboth. How often do you have the opportunity to play mini golf on the rooftop of a store? The views of the ocean and beach are beautiful at night, and if you go at sundown, it can be even prettier.
9. Renting a Surrey Bike
In case you don’t know what a surrey is, it is a four person bike that has a top. Almost looks like a cart, but has pedals. This is such fun, my family and I always end up laughing as we pedal because we get out of sync!
10. The Outlets and tax free shopping
Delaware is the best place to shop, not only the outlet prices, but it is tax free. There are three separate outlets that have a minimum of about 20 stores each, giving every shopper a variety of stores to go through. Ranging from Vineyard Vines to Under Armour, there is always something to find, and usually at a good price too.
Rehoboth has so many memories packed into it from the many years I have come here. From the numerous beach houses we have rented to senior week with friends, every inch of this little town has something special about it. Coming to Rehoboth is always relaxing due to the fact that the neighborhoods are in quiet areas without a lot of commotion. The people here are very friendly too. Plus, Rehoboth allows you to be on the beach, but without an ample amount of people like other beaches. If there was only one place I could vacation for the rest of my life, I would choose Rehoboth in a heartbeat.
