10 Reasons You Know You're Ready for Football Season

If you come from a small town, football is more than likely the center of it. The high school football field is where everyone gathers on Friday night. You can hear the roar of the fans from a mile away, and chances are, you know someone on the team or that coaches the team. For little Lapeer, it has become a way of life and a highlight of the fall.

1. You Wear Team Colors Frequently.

Half of your closet involves your favorite team's colors. You wear them even when it's not game day.

2. You Find Joy In Watching The NFL Draft.

Recently, the 2017 NFL Draft was on. I watched a big portion either at my boyfriend’s or Buffalo Wild Wings. It was awesome to see which teams selected which players and why. This made me even more excited for football season.

3. You're Willing To Be Cold, Even During The Summer.

Even though it seems excruciating during at the time, you miss freezing your butt off during the game. It is all worth it in the end when the home team becomes victorious.

4. You Are Craving Food From Concessions.

The concession stand where I come from sells the best hot dogs and hamburgers. They were called “Panther Burgers” and “Panther Dogs” and are sold for one dollar. The line during half time stretches around the complex for one of these.

5. Hearing The Cheerleaders Makes You Excited.

I remember most of the cheers from high school, and it’s always fun to cheer along with the cheerleaders.

6. The Concession Stand's Hot Chocolate Is A Craving Even On Hot Days.

Even when it’s warm, the hot chocolate from the concession stand sounds good. For some reason, the hot chocolate has a distinctive taste and is extra chocolate-y.

7. You Miss Drawing On Your Vehicle To Show Support.

To prepare for every game in high school, I would decorate my car with window paint in the school colors. All of my friends got there early and lined up in the front row.

8. You’re Waiting Patiently For The Rivalry Game.

Before my high school combined, we had cross-town rivals. Thousands of people would attend the game and it was much anticipated.

9. You’re Ready To Wear Layers.

It’s not even full-on summertime yet, and you’re ready to wear winter coats and two layers of pants. Football fans can say, “I’d rather be cold than hot”, confidently.

10. The First Kickoff Makes Your Heart Pump.

The beginning of the season is very important. From the first kickoff to the last play of a season, it may be a rollercoaster, but there is no doubt that it is the best three months of the year.

Being such a football fan, I am always ready for football. Personally, it’s my favorite season. Hearing the crash of shoulder pads, yelling at the refs for a bad call, and riding along the journey with the team of your choice is a great feeling.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
