We've all heard they football is dangerous, and with the placement rate of children in football decreasing it's beginning to worry some people about the loss of football players in many towns.
But the big scare is the injuries and possible brain trauma they can endure.
Ever since the NFL was recently accused of not protecting their players, people have began to worry more and more about concussions and other brain traumas.
But there are many positive reasons to play football, and many of them are priceless.
1. The Relationships with teammates you build are priceless
From high school to your senior year of college you'll play with a lot of different people, and many of them you will become friends with. But the true friends from your playing days are the ones that'll be in contact with forever. The friends that lace up the cleats on Saturdays with you are the ones that will be in your wedding.
2. You build physical and mental strength
Bench press, squats, and cross-field sprints are all well and good. But the real strength you build is mentally. In football, you have keep fighting when you're tired, and fight for the man next to you.
3. You'll have stories to tell for the rest of your life
Remember that time you plowed through three guys for a touchdown? Or when you won state back-to-back? Cause you and your kids will. Football gives you priceless memories and stories to tell for the rest of your life.
4. Teamwork
Nothing builds teamwork better than playing football next to 10 other people. You all have to be on the same page and work for a common goal. You can't always be the hero that saves the day, and that's what teamwork is about. Do your job.
5. Technique and Precision
If playing football has taught me anything, it's that the little things on a play matter. One step on the offensive line too far and your gap could be split. A wrong read as a quarterback and you could throw an interception. Every little thing in your technique and being consistent is very important. Football has taught me that the little things in life matter, such as how you look, and what you say. Everything.
6. Acceptance
You're not always going to get everything right, you may make a mistake and screw up a play. You may cause a penalty, or say something wrong. But you cannot let that be the end of you. Just because you messed up or you're not the best shouldn't stop you from going forward in football and in life.
7. Work never stops
In football, just because you're not playing a game on Saturdays, doesn't mean that your training stops. You should always be working to become better and more skilled at your craft, In football, and in life you should always work to become the best!
8. Love for the game
Even when you want to quit, even when sometimes you hate it, deep down you still love it. If you're willing to put in an insane amount of work for something like football. In life, when you work that hard for something you know it has to be good and well worth it. But you should never do something that you are not happy about doing. If I hated football, i wouldn't go through the pain and exhaustion that comes with training for football.
9. Time Management
Being a student-athlete is rough. From waking at 4am in the off season to getting back from practice around 7pm every-night during the season. There's not a lot of free time that comes with being a student-athlete. However, we cannot use the excuse that we don't have enough time. Being a football player has taught me that time management is an extremely important skill that many people have trouble with. But being a football player it's almost required we learn it. These skills will help through your entire life and are priceless to learn.
10. Money Management
During the season we have almost no time to work or function as a normal person. Thus we have little to no income during our season. So we must be very careful about our spending habits. After most practices I feel like just calling take out and eating out. But rather do that I take the more frugal route and eat at the cafeteria. Even though it's not the most satisfying thing, it's what you have to do. Money management is something that some people never grasp in their lives, and as an athlete, we develop those skills early.
The benefits of football is something that most people will never understand, but the few that do get them realize that they are priceless. Hopefully, everyone can build on these skills such as many athletes have.
