Having older sisters is the best blessing in disguise. Yes, there were times where I wanted to pull my sisters' hair out, and we definitely got in numerous arguments over the front seat and wearing each other's clothes, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. The fighting made our relationship stronger and as we all get older we look back at those fights and realize how immature we were.In the end, we are family, and that type of bond can never be broken.
1. They are (usually) available to talk to you 24/7.
Whether it is boy trouble or you just want to chat, your sisters will be there for you. Not living so close to my sisters has brought us even closer because we now have a reason to call each other to catch up.
2. They have probably gone through something similar that you are struggling with now, which makes them experts.
Almost all of the problems I have had, my sisters have experienced the exact same thing or something very similar. When your sisters are not too much older than you, they have the insight you are looking for.
3. They are always down to do whatever with you.
When all your friends can’t hangout but you’re dying for an adventure, you can always count on your sisters. The guilt trip usually works for this, if they are not as up for it as you would have expected.
4. They are entertainment for long car rides or boring Sundays.
When there is nothing to do, you can always count on your sisters to think of something fun to do, whether that is looking through old home videos or retelling embarrassing stories of each other. You grew up with each other, which means you have plenty of embarrassing stories of each other that should stay within the family.
5. Older sisters go through the most with your parents.
Usually once it comes down to the youngest child, your parents have seen it all. There is a lot of slack for younger siblings, and that can be a positive or negative thing.
6. They were your homework helper go to in high school.
Most parents don’t remember high school pre-calc or high school physics, but your sisters most likely still have their binders from when they took those classes, or they at least briefly remember enough to help you get through it.
7. Getting endless passed down clothes.
Whether you liked it or not, up until about high school, you were getting bags of clothes. Some of the things may have been way out of style, but you could still find a few gems to add to your wardrobe.
8. Your taste on certain things come from them.
You guys watched the same tv shows together when you lived in the same house, and when driving in the car together, either she would play her music or you would play yours, which coincidently had very similar songs.
9. They defended you to your parents.
Because they are older and have most likely done the same things that your parents yelled at you for, they knew what you were thinking and why you probably did it. Your parents don’t always see why you do certain things but your sisters do. They also know that you have to make mistakes and do dumb little things to learn from it, and parents don’t always see it that way.
10. They are family and your best friends.
One of the hardest things about college is not being able to run into my sisters' room and jump on their beds when I am bored and want to hang out. Although they are only a phone call away, it will never be the same as it was in high school when we were all under the same roof. But I am lucky to have strong and cherishable relationships with my sisters, and it is something that I never take for granted.
There are good and bad memories that everyone shares with their sisters, but knowing that they will always be there for you and have your back is an unimaginable feeling of bliss.
